I was suddenly reminded of my old movie rental store where you had to go take a paper tag off a hook to rent the thing it was in front of. I remember another store selling off their PlayStation games and I bought some cool stuff you don’t see often, like Threads of Fate and Rival Schools. Good stuff.
Always liked the grooveshark choices, but everytime Derrick picks the best jams. A lot of defunct businesses of my childhood, we didn’t have a Banana Video, but we had a C and J Video I hated because they had this giant Chucky 3 cardboard standee I was afraid of when I was like 5. Video City was another good show rental place we had. We also had a place in Bakersfield called Dimples that had inflatable laser tag, a mini golf course, playplace, and arcade. So hard to find commercials for these places, like evidence that they existed outside of my memory.
The Cure, Queenryche, AND Fetty Wap?!
awesome cast
I've only really heard Queensrÿche on classic rock radio and thought they were a hair metal band, which is my least favorite metal genre, I had zero idea they were prog. I love Maiden so I bet I'll dig them, that song was pretty cool.
Operation Mindcrime is their masterpiece
I feel like we were saying "how much better could quality get" for the original Blu-Rays/HD DVD in the mid 2000s
difference between video games and music is that a video game console is from a singular corporation, whereas for record collectors you can play them on any device. You would have to compare them to a computer, where you have much more autonomy - but even then video games are updated regularly, which is why they won't be able to last as physical media. If video games were to continue in physical media form you would have to go back to them working like cartridges, with writeable storage so they can be updated. it would be pretty funny if in the future we would have "vinyl collection" but for video games, where you have a PC that looks like a fuckin' NES and you play Uncharted 4 on a cartridge for the people who really like to collect.
I think that Fetty Wap song is more popular than ever tbh
Dear Garrett, I found an Animaniacs CD album from 1994 at a thrift store, not in original packaging, and it's still plays as smooth as eggs.
I wanted to that copy of Drillbit Taylor
Should've had Fuck The Kids by NOFX as the theme song. Oh well! 🤷♂️
OOOH
I'm absolutely loving this cast, definitely worth subscribing to this tier for. The way you guys give each other homework assignments leads to awesome segments when they're done, and hilarious segments when they don't get done. Killin it
The Kaleidescape recently introduced a higher bitrate system for films which they are considering a new format. For instance the 4k Dolby Vision is 66 gb download but the higher bitrate 4k Cinematic is a 100gb download. I could see whatever the next disc based format being something similar to what Kaleidescape is doing. 4k based but higher capacity disc to allow a larger bitrate and less compression.
did not know ed asner was a full on 9/11 truther there’s an entire part about it under activism on wikipedia
off to an incredible start lmao
My friend in high school had an e-book that was like the upgraded anarchist cookbook. It had a rather long and graphically detailed section bout microwaving a cat. We weren't friends very long after he got that book.
The segment where you talked about the Taste of Texas place ruled. Would honestly love an episode of you guys just talking about/showing off local food haunts of past and present. (Selfishly want more Jimmy's of Santee lore)
What a wonderful podcast, thanks guys, this is definitely worth the price of entry
What's wild about Derrick's pick is that Fetty Wap just did a collab with Jimmy John's in the last month. Went from not remembering Fetty Wap for about eight years to seeing him twice in a week.
If your disc rots, it's simple: you just copy it to a new disc
this is random but i like Derricks energy on here compared to main cast. He seems to contribute more to the convo vibe as opposed to like on main cast he almost acts like a tv host, rushing along convos to get to topics that must b hit or feeling like the podcast is getting stale. idk, its weird(and i know, very parasocial) seeing him grow over 20 years but especially in the last 5 years seeing him change and adapt in these formats where its so familiar but with his new talents and experiences/accomplishments. The artists journey is inspiring to see tbh!
You guys are really smart for sticking with physical products so heavily... really good intuition. The Sony announcement was a wake-up call for me and Im now one of those scrambling for physical media.
I appreciated the Blink-182 x 7-Eleven breaking news; thank you.
The segment about 90s Hot Topic reminded me of a badass DBZ shirt I got at the Jersey Shore when I was about 8, so now I’m going through old photos looking for pictures of it. Love this podcast.
Back in 2015 for our honey moon, my wife and I drove 16 hours south through Texas to get to San Antonio with bad cell service. Fetty Wap's debut album was the only music we had downloaded locally for some reason, so we listened to it on LOOP. Every time I hear Trap Queen it takes me back to the salad days of our marriage.
One of my favorite episodes of Mega Mansion yet. Just the varied stories and talk about physical media, the importance of physical media and the boyz' personal collection, it was awesome. I still have a copy of G Gundam that I bought from an antique mall way back when in high school and it's still one of my favorite pieces of media. Great episode, guys
This made me think of what we lost when Frys Electronics went under. Every store was a themepark and hentai DVDs were sold straight up out in the open. Lost but not forgotten.
Rocco has the biggest collection of ‘Still Waiting’ and it’s the only thing keeping physical media alive ✊
Really loving the new podcast!
Straight back from international flights and into the mansion. Truly rich guy lifestyle.
The rich get richer.
