5 Teep Masters from the Muay Thai Library (compilation, 10 mins)
I like to make compelation videos from the Muay Thai Library, looking back at some of the amazing sessions we have, some of them quite far back. This is the latest one. The Library is so huge its easy to miss great stuff. These are five great sessions with Teep instruction, maybe the quintessential Muay Thai strike, key to establishing rhythm and controlling distance. If you remember other sessions in the MTL with teeps that inspired you be sure to mention them in comments.
These are sessions in the Library with these great krus, if you want to dig in deeper:
#82 Chanchai Sor. Tummarungsri - The King of Teeps (54 min) watch it here
Perhaps in all the Library there is no session more devoted to, and detailing of the art of the teep. Chanchai is a Golden Age legend known for his undefeatable teep, and clearly has spent many years dissecting all the small parts that make his teep so incredible, so students can learn it for themselves. Dive into the art of the teep in this one!
#89 Arjan Pipa JockyGym - The Roots of Femeu (77 min) watch it here
Arajan Pipa was the guiding force in the famed Jocky Gym, which produced elite GOAT-like fighters like Saenchai, Somrak, Sillapathai and so many others. It's a real pleasure to have him in the Library showing his philosophy guided around the teep, off-balances, and taking angles. One of the true Masters.
#85 Kru Manop Yuangyai 2 - The Art of the Sweep (57 min) watch it here
In Kru Manop's first session in the Library he broke down the teep, in this one he's all about the sweeps that made Saenchai famous. Kru Manop was Saenchai's padman for several years, and is one of the most technical instructors in all of Thailand. It's very rare for sweeps to get such an exhaustive treatment. A special entry in the Library.
#55 Manop Manop Gym 1 - The Art of the Teep (90 min) watch it here
An absolutely brilliant technician, Arjan Manop who is famed as Saenchai's Yokkao padman, teaches the art of the teep in fantastic detail. Some of his corrections were so small, like the timing of the plant foot, but have made big impacts on my practice. If you love the fine details of beautiful Muay Thai technique this is a session for you.
#47 Silapathai Jockygym - Master of Teep Distance (64 min) watch it here
One of the great femeu fighters of the Golden Age unlocks the secret of his teep oriented dominance which made him one of the most difficult fighters to face in his day. The lessons here are precious as he unfolds the details of how to use the teep and tempo to always put the fight where you want it.
#87 Luktum Sityodtong 2 - Stepouts, Fakes & Teeps (74 min) watch it here
The Femeu fighting style is one of the most difficult to learn because it requires so much intuition and control over space. Sometimes it feels like it works by magic. But it doesn't. It's full of techniques and footwork, many of which Luktum teaches in this session. Learn how he artfully manages his opponent through an assortment of fakes, stepouts and teeps.
#25 Luktum Sityodtong 1 - Positioning and Trips (62 min) watch it here
Tum is an active international Thai fighter raised out of the famed Sityodtong gym. He shows the importance of positioning and timing in this session with a fantastic lower body system of tripping attacks towards the end. His muay is both physically close, but also evasive and tactical.
