Training Insights (Patreon): Pulling Your Ruup Together (6 min)
Ruup (Thai for form, shape, outline) is one of the most important, but also seldom talked about aspects of Thailand's traditional Muay Thai. It is the upright form or structure of your muay, and in traditional scoring is a big factor, even if some new Entertainment Muay Thai may not regard it as much in the same way. For me its really important, and as you'll see in the video it's connected to my confidence and performance.
I've moved my training over to the new Mavinn Gym in Pattaya, where Namsaknoi is the head trainer, and have been having great success. My padman, Naek, is not far from my size and he's a Muay Khao fighter, so we work very well together. You can see some of our work together from today in this Patreon Quip, a moment from my trainingn that that I talk about in the video above.
This video is about how today's training was particularly hard, and the lessons I learned from it. Ruup is so important.
You can find Samson Isaan sessions in the Muay Thai Library, I mention him. And Namsaknoi's sessions as well: Table of Contents.
I want to share more of my daily experiences of training as a fighter in Thailand, in posts and in the new Quips feature,, as this Patreon not only supports the creation of the Muay Thai Library project and the legends and fighters in it, but also it supports me as a fighter, making the kind of training and fighting possible. if you don't have the Patreon app to get new Quip postings thinking about downloading it.
You can see clips from some of the work I was doing with Karuhat this week in this Quip:
