Namsaknoi #3 clips - Learning Thru Sparring, Secrets to his Timing & Angle Taking

Posting this long trailer of the latest Namsaknoi session in the Muay Thai Library #164 Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn #3 - Aggressive Tempos, Angles & Sensing Guard (94 min) for all the freely subscribed followers of our Patreon, and for all those that support that haven't had a chance to watch it yet! (linked full above). It's just such a special session because it gives so much insight into how elite, legendary fighters pass their unique styles and rhythms onto others, not in padwork, but in instructive sparring, mirroring the way they developed their styles in the first place. In the Golden Age sparring, without equipment, was a very signifant part of fighter development. I've already shared some of my semi-equipmentless sparring work with Yodkhunpon here, in a lengthy example: Evolution in Sparring - working with Yodkhunpon and sparring gloveless . There is a coming post on this kind of sparring including somewhat rare video footage of Golden Age training. Namsaknoi does not use pad holding in his teaching. In the Library you'll find lots of Karuhat sessions. Like Namsaknoi Karuhat prefers not to hold pads when teaching. Today Pad holding has become the hallmark of "Thai" style training, but traditionally skills were built up in close pressed, largely equipmentless sparring. It is these which bring build up the hidden Thai fighting principles of ruup (posture, visual impression) and jangwa (rhythm, timing). In these ways, instructive, developmental sparring with ex-fighters is the most direct way of accessing their versions of these qualities Pad holding was largely used for conditioning, as Kaensak once described it, "to charge the battery". I love the increasing number of aspects of training and skill development that we've been able to document in the Muay Thai Library, one of the most difficult things to convey across video. Working with great legends in this way and pealing off the layers of how they think and feel muay is unreplicatable.

You can browse the entire Muay Thai Library here, there are over 200 video hours so far documented. Likely the greatest video documentation effort for a fighting art of any kind, made possible through your support. We are coming upon 10 years of this incredible project in September.
