Behind the Boobs - OMAM Mocap

A quick look into some of the upcoming mocap animations!

Hey all, we're getting close to finishing up Of Mice and Manipulations (I've animated 56/64 scenes, just need post work and sound design after that) current schedule is next week.

Normally I'd release a couple of scenes as a bit of a tease, but since the release is quite close, rather than spoil the first few scenes, I thought I'd give you a bit of a different look at the behind the scenes process for the new animation techniques we're using. To further explain the steps in the video:

  1. This is the raw mocapping process, which streams live from the suit being worn. I pump my hand in the air 2 seconds before each take as a way of tracking it all (like using a clapper on a movie).

  2. Next we import that data into our intermediary program, and pull out which take should be used

  3. Transposing that data onto the actual model we're using, I go about cleaning up the feet slipping and any other issues that arise during the mocap.

  4. The facial mocap is a new tool we're using, and while it can look a bit extreme in raw format, it is easier to tone it down than to get expressions that aren't done. After a few afternoons of doing this, Lady Grove said her face was exhausted in muscles she'd not felt before.

  5. This is the primary animation stage, and while I skipped over it for the most part here (there are other videos I've done animating in Daz) this is where a lot of the work takes place, particularly since sometimes the mocap doesn't transpose well into Daz (a program never really designed to accept mocap in the first place). There have been instances where after three hours of banging my head against a wall, I have given up and just hand animated the whole thing. Luckily, this isn't one of those instances.

  6. The final result! I know it feels very short for the amount of work that goes in, but that's how it rolls.

And now I'm back to it! If you haven't voted on the poll yet, check it out as it'll be ending soon and production will begin on the winner as soon as OMAM is done!

Can't wait to see this finished, about how long is turning out to be, roughly

This is actually incredibly compelling and a lot of work for such a niche thing. It's truly incredible to see such dedication to the craft. Fantastic work.
