Behind the Boobs - A different mocap!
We're revolutionizing up how we're animating here at the Grove!
After proving the viability of full body mocap, I decided to look into its expressive sister - facial mocap. Luckily that side of things is actually far more integrated into Daz Studio, it just required more purchases (sigh) and a bit of experimentation.
Now, some software (and a very cheap second hand iPhone) later, we've got a full face mocap rig! To temper expectations know we're still working with the same daz studio models and much like the body suit, it's consumer grade, so don't expect Gollum level facial movements, but it's definitely providing some solid building blocks. The example above is the raw capture footage, so obviously the eyes and such need smoothing, but it's a great starting point, particularly for speaking.
As I type Lady Grove is working to express out the voice lines we have for the latest animation, and it's coming along quite well.
You can see from the gif a running example of the raw face data going into the model, and can also see here one of the first clips of it working in tandem with the body suit capture.

Its been a huge learning curve but in the end I had fun and its cool to see what BE Grove does with my silly faces at the end 馃槉

I can see there's some rough edges with this but overall I'd say this is going to improve the quality as we go further away from the stiff aspects of older animations.
Its definitely a step in the right direction. There's still plenty of finessing that BE Grove does after I give him the raw face data but its so cool to see it all working together.
Y'all have started your own BE centered animation studio at this point. Congratulations!!! Did y'all ever see yourself getting to this point with the following that you have? I am always quite pleased with your work and I am always excited to see the next big thing y'all come out with. Keep up the great work and don't for get to take brakes and focus on each other.
We still pinch ourselves, it was definitely the dream but its amazing to us that it became our reality.
