Looking at the cockpits I do not see anything for instrument flying navigation. What capabilities did they have? I am not sure there was anything other than the AN ranges which requires only a receiver.

today i learned... you can't early access something after it's premiered... that sucks :D

Yes, it just switched over. Sorry about that but I have to do it at some point.

Thanks for these videos. This reminds me, in the bio of Daniel McGovern, "Rebels to Reels", it says that those aft of the bomb bay in a B-17 wore heating vests because those men could not enjoy the benefits of the heating system that those forward of the bomb bay enjoyed. (Dan was too big for heating vests and so wore extra layers when operating his cameras.)

Both of the HF videos have been very interesting indeed, appreciated the pilot insights. I know you tend to focus on fighters and technical details (which I love your channel for) but I would certainly be interested in a your analysis of other aircraft types. I've long been fascinated by all the facilities that were crammed into the Sunderland flying boat for example to make it more pleasant for the crew on long patrols. These features were greatly appreciated by the crews that had to actually fight in them.

This video and its predecessor are great and highly instructive for all Engineers. Kurt Tank was a big fan of "automation"; having machines do what they can so that pilots and crew can focus on the mission. One of his (failed) projects was the Fw 191; a high-wing, twin-engined altitude bomber that introduced fly-by-wire control surfaces, replacing cables (and rods) on the premise that electrical cables can be routed conveniently and to minimise chances of combat damage. The electrics of the era were however too unreliable and the project was canned.

I really enjoyed these two HF videos! It's hard to find much on cockpits of that era. Super thanks for doing these!!
