Frank Final Video

The last video in the Ki-84 Hayate series is coming up. I'm curious to see how it does. The videos on the Japanese airplanes are about 3 times more work than on a US or British plane because of the lack of information and photos. I think I have used every photo of the Frank from the period that's in existence and used each multiple times.

Part of me wants to make a Ki-44 Tojo video, another part of me want to skip the Japaneses stuff altogether. I'll see how this next video does and then think about when and if I do another Japanese fighter video.

I think in this case more work equals more historical value. Even as someone who has studied WW2 aviation rabidly for 50 years, I had little insight into any detail or even the basic nature and competitiveness of the Ki-84. While I've certainly learned from your evaluations of more popular and well-known designs, it is the videos of the lesser known, especially the Japanese that move the needle for me. I would also welcome more videos on Italian and Russian aircraft for the same reasons.

I'm a big fan of your presentations + they collectively form a great resource, based on sound knowledge and interpretation. An antidote to much of the other stuff around :-) Personally, I'm keen on 'the Greg treatment' for ~all ~pre 1960 aircraft & related technical developments - and esp the lesser known/understood, OTOH, I appreciate that the depth means more work and maybe a narrower audience + you (we) deffo don't want it to become a bit of a treadmill experience for you. Definitely, follow your interests, I'd say.

Greg,. I'll always say do what interests you first. That way you don't tire of it. Having said that, I will be the one to ask if you would be willing to throw in a video from time to time on something that is off the beaten path. I think you've done that with your PBY and TBF videos very well. You mentioned the Lysander recently in a video. For some odd reason I've always had a soft spot for the C-46 Commando because it's powered by R2800s and I believe it's reputation was unnecessarily tarnished by Operation Varsity. My belief is that it was an transport with outstanding capabilities and rather underappreciated. Back on the more beaten path, I would suggest the Martin B-26 Marauder....as have several others that I've noticed. The performance prior to the change in wing incidence is an area I've always been interested in learning more about. Anyway, I think you've got a lot of choices regardless. I secretly hope someone reveals to you their personal stash of Republic Aviation documents that survived destruction and we can finally get some detail on the XP-72. Ha!

Hi Greg, I really like the videos about the Japanese fighters. One question: I recently re-watched the FW-190 videos. I got the impression that there were more videos to come. Did I get that wrong? I hope you someday make a video about the A-26 Invader. Very interesting piston engine aero plane, with a service history spanning three wars.

There are two more Fw190A videos. I should get those finished up.

The thing is when you go away from British/American/German stuff there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot out there. This is why I love the Japanese stuff, it’s awesome to get a purely statistical, technically based evaluation without any pro-allied bias or political agenda. If you move away from the Japanese stuff would love to see a series on the Yak series of fighters or some of the later Italian stuff like the Mc202/205.
