Ki-84 PREVIEW video is up
Not the full video, and of what's here I'm probably going to edit it a bit more before the release of the full video, but this should give a glimpse of what's coming.

I know you consider the "Frank" the best operational Japanese fighter of WW2, but what about the Mitsubishi J2M Raiden? I know only around 600 were built, but writings I've seen call the Raiden an outstanding preformer...
The Raiden is certainly up there as well.
I would be fun see a comparison of the Pratt & Whitney R-2000 (basically a bored out R-1830) and the Homare, would nicely show the difference that higher compression ratio and water injection make for aero engines.
They(the Brits) certainly seemed to have done just that(re:higher revving) with the Napier Saber engine, I believe its redline is somewhere in the region of 4,000 rpm with most sources showing max power at 3,700-3,800 rpm. Mind you the Sabre was of similar displacement to the Homare, 36.68 litres/2,239in3(Sabre I) vs 35.8ltr, though it was substantially heavier coming in approximately the same weight of the R-2800 at roughly 2,360lbs.
True, but that's a liquid cooled sleeve valve, quite a bit different than a radial. That said, the British did know how to make an engine rev high.
Going with a higher revving engine would imply a smaller propeller diameter to keep the tip speed under control. Curious on the implications for performance this entails against its peers…if any?
If my understanding is correct, not necessarily…. You could still swing a large diameter prop using some sort of gear reduction at the same speed as a lower rpm engine.
Preview very interesting. I wonder if this was the part of the genesis of Japan using smaller/higher reviving engines in other areas.
The Ki-84 us the best-looking of all Japanese WW2 fighters, IMO. I’m looking forward to this video.
