Hawker Sea Fury Preview Video, Patreons Only No Ads

https://youtu.be/R-loV68iBMc

This is a short preview video of the upcoming Hawker Sea Fury video. Rather than make you wait for the full video, I thought I would put this up for Patreons only at this point. Yes, I know it's not full screen, the actual video will be, again, this is just a preview. I'll have the relevant manuals up when the main video comes out.

Quick question: you mentioned the wrist-action stick on earlier British fighters was due to narrow cockpits. Was that the reason the P-38 had that odd steering wheel instead of a stick? I don't remember you mentioned that in your P-38 video. Thanks!

When the P-38 was designed it was normal for mulit-engine airplanes or large airplanes to have a control wheel instead of a stick so the pilot could get more force on the controls. As the 38 was both big, and multi-engined, plus really fast for its time, it was felt that a wheel would be best.

Hey Greg, love these videos.

Great. Hope to find time today to watch this. I was always fascinated by the sleeve valves, and thought "Greg would have a lot of relevant stuff to say about it." Thanks!

Howdy Greg! Sea Fury! Sleeve valves! So happy. Probably too late but I swear I had this though a few days ago, wondering about a comparison of HP vs frontal area or cubic in of displacement of frontal area of air cooled radials. I doubt anything would beat a 4360 but curious as a sleeve valve will have the height advantage with no pushrods, rocker shafts or poppet valves. Swear I was thinking of asking and then this video, 😢. Obviously feel free to not deal with my stupid question, I’m just here to watch!😀

The Sleeve valves appear to come out slightly ahead in both power per unit of displacement and power per unit of frontal area. The problem is that there are not a lot of apples to apples comparisons which can be made, but I do cover this in the video. I have A LOT of sleeve valve stuff in the main video.
