Ki-61 Tony 2 Engine, the Kawasaki Ha60 Inverted V-12 engine
This is the real deal, the Kawasaki Ha60 engine used in the later Ki-61 Tonys. This picture is not of a German DB, Aichi or any other variant, it's the actual Kawasaki engine. This one is based on the German DB605.

Update, I just figured out, this is the later Kawasaki engine used in the Tony 2 and based on the DB605, not the 601. The upcoming video will focus on the earlier Tony 1.
So the Tony 2 used the DB605 and the Tony 1 used the DB601?
Thanks Greg, Maybe do an overview of all the Japanese planes over time.
I'm going to stick with the Ki-61 for now, the 100 will be another video another time.
I've read accounts that the radial re-engined version was better then the inline ki-61 because of the reliability of the HA-112.
Just curious. Are you going to cover the Ki-100 also?
Andrew, I'll do what I can, but I don't have high hopes for getting it out by Saturday morning.
Looking forward to another fascinating video. Just can't get this stuff anywhere else.
Any way you can bring the release up to friday night? Or at least saturday morning? I am traveling from saturday afternoon and will not be able to make it.
It's the inducer for the supercharger compressor.
Where you'd "normally" fit a swirl throttle?
Is that a swirl throttle?
Easy to see the DB heritage
It's an inverted V-12, six of the cylinders are on this side. It's a license built version of the Diamler Benz DB601A engine. That's the 109E version.
That looks like an inline from this angle, not a vee engine.
