P-39 Video

The P-39 video will be up the following location within about 30 mins of this post.

https://youtu.be/_U6zp2bzVcA

I hope you folks like it. This one took a lot of time to make. I cover the reasons for the mid engine design, the pros and cons, and some of the myths about it. NOTE: The manuals are not up yet. I figured I would put up the video now while I have the time. I'll add the manuals soon, probably on Sunday.

I learned a lot more about the P39 in this video than most of what I read about it in several books. It seems like some planes are good when used in specific roles or in different theatres.

Thanks as usual for another fascinating video. Interesting, but seemingly random image at 1:50, unless I'm missing a joke here. I remember reading somewhere that Benjamin Kelsey, one of the army officers responsible for the original P39 spec, said that he had been posted away to Europe while the Turbo issues were being addressed and that it was his great regret that he wasn't around to fight for retaining the turbo as he was sure its issues could have been resolved. The Wikipedia P39 page touches on this but the source link is broken. I like flying the P39 in IL2 but the visibility out the back is terrible and I get bounced a lot.

Have been hanging out for this. P39's helped defend Australia but only the P40 is remembered.

Thanks Greg. I always enjoy your content. Concise, to the point, and we'll sourced. OT How's spring treating you in Tulsa? I lived just north of there up 75 (Bartlesville) for a while and loved Oklahoma's springtime. Cheers! Mike
