It's looking good for the Wright Brothers debate later this month.

I have been wanting this debate for years. My opposite is another airline pilot youtuber who knows his stuff. I think this one is going to be good. More information is on the way.

I won't be playing dirty, but I will be going in on this all guns blazing. I'm not going to be as tender as I was in the P-47 range debate. As for my opponents strategy, he is a European and almost all European Wright deniers use the same argument. They state that the various Europeans that tried before, Maxim, Cayley, and others all made big steps and the Wrights just came along at the right time and finished what they started. It's absolutely false, and I can't wait to get into this.

All I read about this in the past suggested that the Wright brothers considered what published research their predecessors had to offer. They were apparently keen to get Otto Lilienthal's notes but came to believe that they either contained errors or his findings did not apply to what they were building. In the end they went back to first principles and mostly did their own research. A couple of smart bicycle mechanics! Off topic: IMHO the Wright brothers were a sterling example of smart, ingenious Americans determined to discover the empirical truths about the physics of flight by relentlessly working until they were found, then applied them to achieve controlled, powered flight . The whole world benefited. It astounds me that a nation that produced such exceptional people as the Wrights could elect a Federal government based on lies and refusal to accept verifiable facts or logic they don't like. Just seems so un-American. Looking forward to this debate. 🇨🇦

Looking forward to it, but what happened to your original Wright Bros video?? It's no longer on the channel and I would like to view it again.

What's his position? Who does he think flew first?

This will be interesting. Even if, by some strange chance combination of false ideas did allow someone else to fly in controlled powered flight before the Wrights, they were the ones with the wind tunnel, the insight that a propeller is just a pair of wings, and the theory behind their control; they didn't just happen to throw stuff together and get lucky on the 100th configuration of random junkyard parts. The proof for me is when they went to that Paris air show in 1908, 4-5 years later, and flew boring circles around that race track for an hour, when (almost?) no one else could manage even one controlled lap. If anyone else had been able to fly a controllable powered airplane before the Wrights, they either died shortly after, or didn't recognize what they had done and went on to other endeavors.
