Next video and A.I. Thief.

My next video will go into a lot of detail about Tommy McGuire's last mission. He was the number 2 highest scoring US ace with 38 kills. More than that he literally wrote the book on shooting down Japanese airplanes, the book that has the official USAAF document on the subject. How a lone Ki-43 did so much damage to a flight of 4 P-38s, three of which were flown by experienced veterans is quite a story, but from a human element and a technical perspective. I think it's going to be a great video.

On that subject, I have been having some trouble with certain channel that uses AI to convert my videos into a shorter summary. They use my dialog, almost line for line, the same pictures, even the artwork from my site, which is stolen and I paid for it (the stuff from Spacer).

I have won the first copyright strike against this channel. I just filed a second, which is a Ki-43 video that came out on his channel yesterday. I'm hoping to win that one too. The entire channel is made up of what is essentially stolen content from my and other channels. He uses some AI program to condense the videos, eliminating tangents and such and slightly rephrasing sentences. Everything that's not directly copied from the source is very often incorrect, which would be comical if this crap wasn't getting a lot of views.

Update on this, I won it on appeal, youtube took it down.

Ian, sort of. It's more like the recent Ki-43 video prompted me to make a video about McGuire's final flight. I normally stay away from pure historical stuff, but this story has very strong technical and human factors tie ins.

First, thanks for all the support. The offending channel is Dogfight Aviation, however commenting there will only help his algorithm. The guy knows how the systems works. He avoids copyright strikes by tanking the video down as soon as he is caught. As he only gets caught maybe 10 percent of the time, and it takes him no effort to make the videos, he is sort of winning.

I may have to change my format to prevent this theft. I hate doing this, but I might change to having myself on screen more and using game footage as it make it much harder to steal the video content for use on other channels. I haven't decided yet, but I'll keep you guys updated.

I just lost a copyright claim. It seemed cut and dried to me. The offending channel took my video, used AI to change the dialog slightly and shortened it a whole bunch. What I thought was the nail in the coffin is that they used my charts for speed comparison. It's a Ki-84 video and I made those charts which are on my video from 2 years before the other video that took them. I'm appealing it, but it seems the people that do this have the youtube system figured out.

The USA is one of the few places that belligerently pursue theft of intellectual property. Most of Asia, Africa, South America, and even Europe generally don't see things the way we do, piracy and theft of online content is not only common, but considered normal behavior. I had a couple of roommates from India once upon a time and they were shocked and surprised to find out I went to the store to buy or rent DVD's when I wanted to see a movie, their response was: "Why not just download it for free?" They didn't seem to understand that without a profit motive, the movies and TV shows they liked so much wouldn't get made...

Why is it in recent history that people can't be creative on their own, and have to be bottom feeders sucking their subsistence from those with REAL talent! TOO SAD and too BAD. Can you imagine how much you can learn by actually getting a hold of some books and doing research on these subjects! I extremely enjoy researching subjects that I am interested in. . .

I found the video and confirmed it was a knock off and reported it. Hope it gets pulled but you never know

That’s unfortunate re the thieving of your content. Is there anything the community can do to help stop it?

There's a channel from Brasil that makes a fortune stealing content. And has loads of followers.

Name the thief, and we'll let everybody know in his comments that you're the original poster, and that he's a thief (politely, of course)

Leaving comments won't solve anything, most channels like those are automated, or they just don't care.

Sounds fascinating, as ever! Is the story you reference what prompted the recent Ki-43 video by any chance?

It's amazing how YouTube damages and even bully's great creators while being unseeing of bogus and dishonest propaganda. It seems that if a history channel doesn't slant everthing towards a worldview that the employees support even to straight up misinformation and lies they take great joy in harassment of that creator. I am so glad you won the first one it's not usauly that way congratulations. Please look at the less known aircraft like the IAR 80/82 that fought for Romania and the PZL aircraft from Poland or any of the mid 1930s aircraft that led the way to the ww2 greats like the f2f or the p43 lancer. You are my favorite channel for aviation history and would love your take on these

Unfortunately the thievery on Youtube is pretty common - there is little risk of getting caught and no consequences. Another channel I like has a video about a tank restoration project the creator did, which took him months, that has 300K views, and the stolen video has over 5 million views. If you use a four letter word starting with "N" to describe Germans in WW2, you get demonetized, but stealing other people's time, work, and intellectual property is fine. Youtube could easily fix this. I uploaded a 15 second clip of a soccer game (my bad) to share with five people, and Youtube took it down as a copyright infringement within a day.

In this universe, Skynet is sneakier. AI is proving that laziness rules. I've already had to step on people who refuse to do their own research. Do humanity a favor and be our Kyle Reese. Kidding aside, take care of this individual while we still have control of our justice system. As far as your content is concerned, my history interests have been WWII aviation, be it history or the aircraft involved. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos. Best of luck against Skynet. Thank you for covering Maguire. I find tragic parallels between Maguire and Mannock as I do the race in 43-45 and the 17-18 airwar.

Keep fighting the theifs, if I come accross the stolen content I will report it. Though im essentially shadowed banned from youtube so I don't know what good it will do. How I got the ban is a mystery, I honestly don't get hostile on there or comment much, I don't know what bugged them, probably something as benign as a like on something that they don't approve of. Shrug.

Not that it will do any good, but I found the AI stolen video and entered in a complaint to YouTube.

I've gotten recommendations which looked so strange that I didn't click. Two in particular used the same thumbnail as a video I'd just seen, but pasted some bikini babe on one side or other other.

In so far as the Ki-43 vs the P-38s is concerned...that's got to be a good example of💩happens and anything's possible. Re the scumbag: go after him with both barrels. Guys like that suck. FWIW, I haven't found his channel yet so he can't be too popular, but that's besides the point.

Sounds like a great video, Greg, looking forward to it as always! Keep fighting the good fight against the YouTube vultures. I, and I bet a lot of your viewers, would be more than happy to strike, cite, and report these channels as well, if we are able to.

Everyone is coming out with more of these tools, which range from extremely helpful to completely evil. The new version of DaVinci Resolve has big warnings about permission when you go into cloning tools. Sucks that we have to deal with these people who won't make their own content.

Keep up the great work Greg. I've blocked every channel that has content that imitates yours. They all use AI's and appear to plagiarize your video content as well.
