Help Me lol

What’s the psychology of people that message me to discuss the show INSTEAD of using the comment section OR the chat rooms

I can understand the importance of making sure I see it as there are sooooo much comments

But when you choose the DM, then suddenly I’m overwhelmed there too and I can’t keep up with individual conversations about TV shows.

Buuuuut LOOK AT THE CHATROOMS. I TALK BACK AND KEEP UP

The only time I’m unresponsive is if I can’t relate to what’s going on, I missed it, or your being wierd.

I won’t say it as I don’t want to make people feel bad lol. Some social habits are difficult for me to interact with.

My speaking style falls under the classification of Grass Toucher/Degenerate/Nerd.

I tend to bring REAL life into the conversation and draw from life experiences.

so if your showing me a bunch of loli waifus I’m not really gonna have much to say.

but yeah. use chat rooms.

Imagine talking about the same exact topic with five different people and five different direct messages

I’m one person and I prefer to talk in a group setting

Just seeing the pics I thought this post was going to be about having a man crush on the guy from Hwayugi (sorry I don't remember his name) 😂😂😂

I think it’s largely a mix of parasocial psychology and people losing sight of scale (with a sprinkle of other things). It’s the same reason a tiny percentage of idol fans become convinced they have a personal connection with the celebrity. When your only interaction with someone is many hours through a screen, it can start to feel like a one-on-one relationship, and it’s easy to forget that exact same screen exists for tens of thousands of other people too. So in their mind they’re just DMing someone they vibe with. Forgetting that from your perspective, you’re one person trying to live your life and getting flooded, not their personal bestie. Even if it’s hypothetically only 1% of an audience, that number gets massive when the audience grows enough. It’s also why the internet often feels like it’s full of haters, trolls and absolute weirdos. Even if they only make up 1% of people, 1% of billions is still a damn big number. The internet makes that 1% feel like something you see everyday Anyway…End of essay 😂 Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. Donation link below. 👀

I make it a rule to never DM anyone but friends or family. Maybe they just want to see how you react to their DMs, lol. Like right now.

This was a great post and message. People are people -- some are soft, some are needy, some are just fine, it runs the gamut. You're doing great. Nothing to overthink. A message like this now and again is great. Keep on trucking.

You're too kind and welcoming. I recommend picking your weakest subscriber and beating them on stream.

I’m hollering. The way you subtly read multiple people for filth simultaneously with politically correct verbiage should be studied. Psychology minor here…. For the sake of not doubling down on the reading for filth and for keeping it brief, I’ll give them grace via a scientific explanation since “I got my degrees n shit.” (Sorry, I just couldn’t pass this one up LoL) I believe the term you are looking for is not "parasocial", but “dyadic communicator,” with narcissistic tendencies. This type of individual almost always elicits the feedback of one person rather than a larger audience, despite knowing it’s considered improper in certain settings. The psychology behind these rebel communicators suggests that they have some form of public and social media anxiety. In addition, they lack confidence in their communication skills, have zero spatial awareness, are unable to regulate their emotions, struggle to adhere to and adapt to social rules set by others, and often exhibit levels of entitlement. In lacking the confidence needed to believe they have the aptitude to effectively convey their message, dyadic communicators internally justify monopolizing the time and space of another just for the sake of fostering a more intimate dialogue that encourages a direct response only for them. They double down on that justification when they have identified someone who has already been perceived as non-judgmental, flawed, open-minded, and transparent (e.g., you). So there, I hope that this helps to give you a little insight. Just so you know, they won’t stop. Most of them are happy just typing out their opinion, sending it only to you, and getting a confirmation that you have laid eyes on it. You responding is the optional happy ending.

Thank you This also did help “ nonjudgmental flawed open minded” me Im identified as a safe space. It should be perceived as an honor and I didn’t see it that way. Also thank you

I recently joined and thought it was great how you constantly replied on the chatrooms. I asked something myself and you replied, all good. keep it up! Fun place , great reactions, and a lot of content. All good on my side.

I didnt even think about the parasocial aspect. My mind went to a fear of being perceived. Some people may feel misunderstood or judged posting publicly. Not to say thats everyone because there are definitely the other side.

chaosdreamer · July 16, 2026

I think that's still based on having a parasocial relationship though? That is, they feel comfortable enough with Lee to DM him these thoughts/aren't worried about how he would perceive them.

Honestly, this happens A LOT in the live streaming space too. People pay a subscription or donate money, then they immediately assume it grants them access to your DMs and instead of being involved with the community, they just regurgitate what has already been addressed because they have this mentality that "you might not have seen this or that" when the reality is you see it all, it's literally your channel. I've also realized some folks just don't grasp the concept of a group chatroom or a community.. they subscribe to a creator and then immediately go straight to the DMs. This is also why a lot of the creators I follow turn their DMs off because it gets to be too much and certain folks don't know how to give you space or listen and be respectful, they just want to constantly throw at you suggestions, images, and such but it just drains your social battery because they won't stop.

I’ll tell you what it also does The annoyance unfairly build resentment around those TV shows Imagine covering a show that attracts a particular personality type You’d wanna run from it lol There are certain people who I associate with a TV show and makes me not wanna watch it lol

F San · July 16, 2026

They probably are not trying to drain your battery but they are lol! I think they are actually looking for a safe space, also some people don’t like chat rooms for the very reason you like it to them it is a public stage. It’s for sure not something you can mange or keep up with tho that’s way to much juggling and repeat conversations that it become inauthentic

Y
YaBoyRockLee Reactions · July 16, 2026

Yeaaaaaa. I see people like that on Twitter where it’s easier for me to understand, avoiding the public judgment. I guess that’s easy for me to miss because I don’t hesitate to put my face out there and I share my shameful stories lol

M
Manny · July 16, 2026

Ya as others have said that psychology is folks paying for reaction vids and thinking that means they're paying for friendship. Hopefully they back off with these community posts and understand you're building a community, not a private home with them only

L
Luca · July 16, 2026

People do that? That’s insane. I don’t understand that mentality myself, either. I’m the type of person who tries not to dm a creator unless it’s ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. You guys have your own lives and like you said, you’re probably already overwhelmed with the amount of notifications you get elsewhere already. I personally don’t mind even if you don’t see every comment I make. I don’t make them only for you to see, but also because I genuinely like discussing my interests with others online, even if it’s not the creator themselves I’m talking to.

Y
YaBoyRockLee Reactions · July 16, 2026

They do. All the time. “You might have missed this in the comments….” And proceeds to tell me the same things in the comments lol

D
Devlin Draconis · July 16, 2026

I appreciate this, not just because you continue to illustrate your commitment to have a dialogue with your community, but also it’s sort of timely as I was thinking about trying to start a conversation to see if people would talk about it. I invited you into my house, not my mind palace! (This is a joke)

Y
YaBoyRockLee Reactions · July 16, 2026

I do like analogy. I am inviting people to my house But I would feel strange if I saw someone randomly in my bedroom because they wanted to talk to me 1 on 1 Like yooooo all the guests are in the common rooms. Lol My personal bedroom is not the hang out spot lol
