I am in between on the whole He’s not a victim. Multiple things can be true at the same time. Yes, he continued gambling and made choices that contributed to his situation… he was an addict and addiction is a real thing. Addiction really does rewire your brain. but that doesn’t mean he deserved what happened to him. A system took advantage. Him being an addict doesn’t erase the fact that he was still very much kidnapped, threatened, used and traumatized. He can be responsible for his choices and still be a victim for sure. Addiction is complicated.
