Vash is one of my all-time favorite heroes. He is a tragic hero through and through, going through the worst while inspiring the best. I don't think Hoppered knew it was Vash (at least 100%) until the girl said it was him.
I love characters like Hoppered. A monster with a kind heart.
Despite everything that went down Hoppered was still a W for taking care of Vash for 2 years even though Vash indirectly took away his reason for living. Him doing that was a form of torture to make sure Vash lives with the pain he caused but as soon as he saw that Vash was needed somewhere else he knew that his time was done.

Great use of the Gung Ho Gun Hoppered the Gauntlet from the original. Loving the changes/making this a whole new telling of Trigun.
I absolutely feel so sorry for Vash he has been through so much trauma and seen so many deaths and he's blamed for it all. Man if Brad and Rosa die I'm gonna be upset.

That last part when they fucking hit Wolfwood took me out 😂😭 the VA’s scream was priceless. Also I think the reason why Hopps took care of Vash while fully knowing what he did is because he understood one that Vash didn’t do it on purpose and also he saw how both physically and mentally broken Vash was which reminded him of the girl. He could tell that Vash felt guilty about what happened and if he didn’t then I think he would have been more than happy to kill him immediately
I can say that's not fully true with a lot of certainty. Hoppered cared about Jessica when she came and then accelerated his timeline because of her, but what he was, was not a helping type of caretaker for Vash; more of a warden to keep him in line and relive his despair everyday. Remember the last thing he said before dying, "You live to suffer. You must survive in this cesspool of a world, all the while coughing blood"... that's not the type of pain that comes from nowhere or can be had in a dichotomy. Vash's original sin was pain & death, something he vowed never to cause deliberately again, which Hoppered forced on him in the end again😔
