Episode 14 | Getting Even Keeled

It’s interesting how many popular sayings are rooted in sailing. Like staying on course, the rule of thumb, learning the ropes, off the charts, getting even keeled… you can probably list many more. Colloquial expressions used in the office or at home which have nothing to do with the nautical world.

Since I’ve departed on my Winded Voyage, I’ve become reacquainted with these saying in the context they originated. In this case getting even keeled really means getting a new balanced keel for Galopin. It hasn’t been easy, but we’re getting there. Daniel, the one that looks like Robert De Niro is back. I plunge deep into my keel pit with a vengeance.

Then good old Bix invites us to his home for Christmas. You’ll see how a typical modern French family celebrates the holy night. And you’ll understand how Bix is trying to find his balance after nearly keeling over. This is in a way the Winded Voyage Christmas special and it keels.
