Fixing My Boat Galopin In Dakar, Senegal: The Reality of Boat Repair in West Africa | S8E02
Hello Winded Voyagers
There's no wind in my sails yet, but things are moving... slowly. In the delightful African pace. Winded Voyager is starting to make its place in video world.
After two weeks away from the boat was all it took for reality to hit hard. In this episode of Galopin, we are back in Dakar, Senegal, tackling a massive list of repairs after a brutal passage from Cabo Verde.
There are no sponsors and no magic wands here—just hard work, trusted friends, and the grit required to keep an old boat sailing in West Africa. From wrestling with fuel tanks to sealing battery compartments, this is the non glamorous reality of the cruising life.
In This Episode, We Tackle: Installing a new alternator with help from Arona. We replace broken fuel and temperature gauges (and the tricky fuel sender installation inside the tank). Wire in a new fuse for the MPPT solar charge regulator. The painful job of silencing and re-screwing 24 nuts on the service battery hatch. A full check-up for the windlass and installing a badass 10mm base plate with Dialo. My sails are getting fixed which I'll until they give up completely (no sponsors yet!).
Sometimes it feels like I’m living in the Matrix—a video game where the universe constantly throws challenges, obstacles, and occasional rewards my way. But having a community in Dakar that I can trust makes all the difference. We get shit done.
Much love from Dakar
