High Seas Rescue With Busted Steering | Never A Dull Moment Living Aboard In Cabo Verde
Hello Winded Voyagers.
As you probably know, my steering was handicapped. I couldn't use my helm and was waiting on a part to be custom made. I couldn't really sail anywhere. Or could I? Yes I could.
I have made a good friend here recently. A Spaniard named Jose who's been living in Cabo Verde fifteen years. He had recently purchased a used sports fishing boat to start offering sport fishing cruises. As well as renting it out to big game fishing enthusiast. And he did. A crew rented his boat and went out fishing and got caught by a low pressure system passing over the area and were swept further away than they expected. They were running out of fuel and needed help.
The boats owner asked me to bring diesel to the troubled cruiser out at sea. So I put the steering column back together so I could operate the engine and autopilot. The fishermen who had rented the boat got caught in a low pressure system and drifted further away than planned. They communicated with the boat’s owner that were running low on fuel. The boat’s owner, a good friend of mine asked for my help. No one else was available. So yeah, I set off with about five hundred liters of fuel on my handicapped Galopin to rescue a drifting motor boat.
Always an opportunity for adventure in Cabo Verde. Much love and big hugs.
