can't really pick. it's both when it comes to you.
With you - both
The discussions and insight is what helps set Teaboo apart. Compelling in that regard, especially for deep or psychological shows. For predictable or cut & paste stories, discussion just doesn't hold interest.
Without the Discussion, the reaction is just surface-level.
I'm good with both and I honestly like the reactions more. But that's kinda cowardly... the discussion make me look at the subject matter in a way I didn't before, and that's totally what you're going for. I have to sit and stew with what I just watched.
Both, Both is good.
In all honesty, the reaction. The discussion is great and is what sets you apart from other reactors. Your analytics are top-notch. It's just hard to balance the two authentically.
i enjoy your in the moment discussion during the reaction (which is not ideal if overdone since u might miss some details) but the post discussion is also great. i just don't have the time and attention to watch through the whole post discussion though
A balance between both, the reaction would be nothing without a little bit of discussion. But too much discussion can be boring, unless is about a show i really really like.
I think you undervalue your reactions tbh. It’s rare to get someone who does in-depth discussions of anime, thus it’s rare to get people who make reaction content where they actually pay close attention and look for details and are interested in the animation itself. I can say with 100% certainty I haven’t seen any other reactor go on sakugabooru, look up voice actors, or be interested in learning who made the show they are watching.
I feel like this is a false dichotomy to some extent, as the appeal of your videos for me is the combination of the reaction and the pre and post discussions.
I find that the reactions are the core of my interest. That's where you experience the show, find things that support theories or deny them, its where the learning happens. Then with the post episode breakdown we get to process what has been taken away from the episode. I wouldn't call that something fully separate. The pre-episode discussion is coming back and discussing the show with a fresh mind - leveling and reseting your understanding. It all feels part of one whole, but without the reaction as the core, the discussions seem to lose their flavor. We don't get to see the gears turning live. While I'd still enjoy the videos if you uploaded them as only discussion, I feel like we would almost be losing more than just posting the raw reactions. Thus I must vote for reactions. To be clear, I love the discussions. They really act as a toping or a side dish and your channel has some really good sides. I would also say that you are really good at communicating how you view something in the moment, and without that ability I might lean towards the post episode discussion.
I'm mostly here for the reaction. A lot of the time I'll skip to the video and then listen to the discussion after if I'm interested or just have the time while doing something else. There certainly are shows I'm interested in the discussion of, like MT or 86, but most shows it just comes down to my schedule at the time.
Your discussions are the main reason I am watching your channel. However, as a non-English speaker, it is difficult for me to listen to and properly understand all the long, in-depth, and sometimes personal, discussions in the comment-spotlight section. On the other hand, I can enjoy and listen to the discussions after watching the anime, even if they are long. (Of course, I also love the experience of watching the anime with your reactions!) I am looking forward to watching more of your videos in the future, and I hope that you will continue to share your thoughts with us!
I would say "only channel where i don't leave the video at the end of the reaction" but it been a long time since i've watched any other reaction channels.
TBH I'm more into emotion than the dry talking
this
I feel like both are equally important to me; thats the reason why I enjoy your content enough to be a Patreon. Its super nice to watch someone that knows what he is talking about reacting to something you deeply care about (by keeping the full lenght reactions no less, something a lot of other"reactors" dont do: instant no-deal for me), and then the discussions add an even deeper layer to that. So yeah in short I love your content precisely cause of both things coming together.
I personally prefer your reactions with discussions. Like, I really loved for example your Vinland Saga reactions & discussions. As a package, certainly. But I gotta be honest, what I will basically always skip the comment discussions/highlights in front of reactions. They add so much length to the video and often seem to go on a lot of small tangents while adding this element of 'backseat reacting' where people tell you what you should think about a series or which information you might "need" to give more attention to. I think my sweet sport for your vids seems to be somewhere around reaction + 20-60 minutes of discussion, depending on how much stuff there is to discuss.
I think it's interesting, the reaction and discussion almost feel like one in the same thing in an odd way. Sure the nuances and collected extrapalations you provide is great and honestly some of the most supreme analysis of anime and other media I've seen... However, there's something wholly unique about the process of understanding and seeing people interpret media and extract valuable truths from it in real time. You're well experienced and learned, but I think everyone wants to get something out of a piece of media that is lensed through their perspective, usually they don't want someone else to engage or process that for them. However -- that being said I do believe that the reason why you're successful and the reason why I do listen to them at all is because it feels like more a forum to expand upon ideas and form firmer and more wholistic opinions or see differing perspective on scenes that I find important, or acknowledged that you were interested in yourself upon viewing. You're very thorough, and have great media comprehension skills, so no matter if there is subtle nuances in the things you pick up on that is different than mine, I usually end up agreeing or finding the perspective more interesting rather than it being disagreeable. You understand nuance and reality quite well, and you're very articulate.
For most other youtubers, it's the reaction. For you, though I love your discussions. They're the reason I love this channel so much. Don't misunderstand, you have a LOT of great reactions and react moments (floor tee during sympho will always be a favorite of mine 😅😁) your discussions elevate them to an entire new level.
I am primarily here for the discussions, as your observations and interpretations as well as your uniquely articulate manner of conveying your thoughts separate you from many other anime "Reactors." However, you can't have discussions without the reactions in the first place, and time constraints are a thing, so I can't fault anyone who dips out after watching the reaction pips. But the discussions, analysis, and theories are what make you (and the SOS bros) my top anime-content-creators
To grossly oversimply it (tldr), I like your reactions even more than your discussions (tldr-end). Your reactions are mainly why I would watch your videos, your discussion makes your videos potentially much better. I don't always have time to listen to all your discussions, but they are often very enjoyable to listen to on the go, or to watch [with full attention] when I have time. Generally, I enjoy reactions a lot because when I watch reactions, I try to enjoy the show from the [reaction's] author's (your) perspective. Basing off of your past videos, I try to think about what would you know so far, how would you react and how would you think about what you're reacting to. I try to remember things you've missed and how that may affect your current thought process. This is fun and interesting for me in general, and I enjoy the vicarious experience: it allows me to simulate (to some extent) as if I'm watching the show for the first time. Another reason why I like reactions is as you've said before, the anticipation of watching you react to certain scenes are extra enjoyable. I like your dicussions too because the dicussed content are usually fun and/or helpful. They can be helpful in terms of self betterment, and they are almost always helpful to elevate my experience of watching your reactions. To be clear, I enjoy practicing sympathetic understanding (sympathy + empathy is what I mean specifically); being able to read people's mind [and may or may not -sympathize and emphasize- with them] is not what I enjoy.
It depends on the reactor and the anime, but in your case, I love the discussions
Both. But keep watching anime, so i guess for me deep down the reaction.
I think if you had a BOTH option most would have picked it. Imo one without the other isnt great. But for this channel i'd say discussion- because some other peoples reaction videos are similar but DONT have the in depth discussion- i can only get that here and to a lesser degree a few other places.
For any other reactor, it would be the reaction, but your discussions are just too interesting.
Well I like them for different reasons. Strictly compelling would probably be the discussion but I believe I find more enjoyment in the reaction. Also there is the time factor, with all the great discussion content you are putting out now, the reactions certainly feel like a nice treat when you get to it
It depends on the show. There are some shows where I’m just there for the reaction, and others where I’m extremely interested to hear your take on it. I voted discussion because I tend to favor your channel for shows that merit more discussion over other reaction channels.
This is kind of an unfair question since the reactions are what frame the discussion. I don't want pure reaction since it cheapens the reaction. However a 2 hour ramble after a reaction can get tedious. So I think I favor reaction with focused discussion. Then if you want to post a longer discussion about the topics raised in the reaction, that'd be cool.
Depends on how long I have available at the time. Don't get me wrong discussion is very fun and all .. but when i am on a rush i prioritize the reaction first.
I have to say Reactions, since that’s what I mostly watch, but that’s mostly because of my busy college schedule Whenever I have time and I can just listen to the video like a podcast while doing something else, I slap on a discussion of a reaction I liked and listen through the whole thing, and it’s both extremely enjoyable and something you just don’t get with any other reactor. As your channel went on your reactions just kept getting better and better, and your discussions too, so I enjoy the current equilibrium more than one or the other in particular
Found you from jojo's part 5 when I was just looking for reactions, but I didn't follow your content untill I watched you interact with Vinland saga in both discussion and reaction. Then I watched you go through Monogatari, a series I never particularly liked (at least the first couple seasons of) and then hearing you analyze the series made it into my absolute favorite piece of media. I might have said both at one point but I watched every discussion in both yuyu Hakusho and Gundam which are as dumb shonen as shonen gets so I'll take the discussion side here.
I think the only series where I skipped the discussions were Natsume and NNB, other than that I always listen to discussions since they're great, especially with more complex shows, but the reactions themselves are equaly as important to me, so the answer is both.
I feel that I've taken them together this whole time, and never considered them as standalone. Your reactions provide an insight I've seen nowhere else, and watching your gears turn with every scene is an enormous part of the discussion. As it provides observable moments of internalizatiob, processing, and realization that inform the discussion. I guess if I had to pick one, I subscribed to you and your patreon when I witnessed you provide a 40 minute discussion to K-On!'s 24 minute first episode. So I guess I value that more subconsciously. But the distinction feels unsatisfying. It's like choosing between the Tanker and Big Shell parts in MGS2. I guess I might prefer one over the other, but a proper understanding and enjoyment of the game requires both.
Reaction-only videos are only fun for particular moments in a show (ultra epic hype fight scenes, emotional moments, plot twists etc). I don't usually stick around after that. But the reason why I'm subscribed to you is because I care about your thought process throughout each episode. It brings me joy to see you care about the shows that I also care about.
I'm usually here for the reaction (usually because time constraints). But when I stick around for the discussion it's more compelling.
I definitely started watching you because of the reaction, like most people. But what I feel sets you apart is your indepth analysis. That's the best part
Depends on the conent. For Mushoku it's both, but leaning more towards the discussion. If it's a more simple action series or some slice of life fluff, then the reaction
I lean towards the reaction but some days I get sucked into the discussions
Both
I can get what the reaction provides from a million different places, but not the discussion. It's like a one man analytical podcast a la Warui Deshou
Depends per video
Both
