Frieren Episodes 1 + 2 Early Access - It's About Time

Let's GOOOOOO! Frieren is amazing, and I am sure you will come to love it too. Are we gonna see more MT reactions anytime soon? The second half of this season is going to be crazy good.

Edit: I started the next video and now my comment is very dated, but I am not complaining! Glad to see it's been called out and you are super fast to respond! Respect! So I joined because I read about your reactions elsewhere and gave you a try in another series - I very much enjoy watching your reactions and like the format and style and your insight... but... damn these subs really make all the beats I'm used to in Frieren hit way weaker IMO. As non-native people who rely on the subs to interpret what is being said, obviously having those subs worded totally differently really can change how you interpret events. To me everything just feels worse in this translation. "Corrupt priest" is missing, and a lot of the wording sounds worse (another example to compare is when they're joking about how Heiter looked old now, and Frieren says he's always looked that way - it feels way less funny here vs the official Crunchyroll subs). Hopefully you switch to the official subs down the road. And if you're up to it, I'd challenge you to rewatch an episode with the official subs, I expect you'd find it to be better, but maybe that's just seeing it from the perspective of someone who's experienced those many times over.

What are with these subs?

Fuuuuu... I was not ready for this bro I have work to do

Finally！！！ I thought about which one would go first on your schedule, Frieren or MT or else. Frieren does have 28 eps so of course. Excited for both.

The names in this story will often be some German word that directly or indirectly describes what the character is like. Frieren (to freeze) is cold towards people, Fern (far away) is distant towards others... Heiter = Cheerful Himmel = Sky/Heaven Eisen = Iron

dungeon meshi and apothecary, soon, plzzz :33333

Frieren? I hecking love Frieren (it's German btw. and means "freezing"). Stay tuned for more translations of names (if you want).

Bad subs. Please change.

Welcome to the journey Beyond Journey's End....

I'm not sure where you're watching this from but the subtitles seem off.

Finally someone else pointing out the Mushishi vibes this show gives off. One of the few shows that realizes how important time where "and nothing important happened" can be.

Yoooo glad you're doing this. Obvious choice imo given the hype its gotten. Hoping you get to Dungeon Meshi as well! And Apothecary diaries. God this past season had some bangers.

Interestingly, I think I've been waiting for the day you'd review this anime not since it first started airing, but ever since it ended. Since the last episode aired, it's been living rent-free in my head, and I still can't pinpoint exactly why. Usually, after I finish an anime, I can easily explain why I liked it and what elements stood out to me, I'm really stuck. I can't even tell what it was that I liked, or if I even liked what I thought I did. All I know is that this anime gave me a peaceful, gentle happiness. I'm hoping that by rewatching the story through your eyes, I might catch a clue.

Hell yeah!

We're so back!

:D

the Himmel / Heiter parallel is there on why both Freiren and Fern chose magic. Freiren is collecting magic because Himmel found the magic she collected beautiful and "praised" her and Fern chose magic (it is implied in that last scene) because Heiter was awed by her magic butterflies. That's why Fern understands at the end.

I was theorizing about what you might do next. I was hoping you were going to move Re:Zero to Wednesday and bring back the tee-hees on Tuesday. Frieren is great though! I'm actually kind of excited about this choice.

Tee the names are all German, if you don't know already. Good job dodging spoilers. What are your thoughts on Death Anxiety and Generativity? I think these are both key things to this show! EDIT: Holy shit you immediately went to Violet Evergarden just based off the opening visual. I was going to save that for later but your intuition had exceeded my expectations. Yes, of all the anime I have seen in the past decade, I think this most similar to Violet Evergarden. The reasons will make themselves apparent as you watch the show, I'm just glad someone else immediately caught that, and not just me.

Official subs are just better.

Very excited to see your reaction to this and really hoping you'll switch to the Crunchyroll/official subtitles for the rest of the episodes as they work much better than the ones in these two episodes.

FRIEREN AN AGELESS ELEGY LFGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

I'M GONNA CRY YES TEE I LOVE YOU

Lets goooooo

also, the artist that created the ending animation is @hohobun_t on instagram. they're very talented and super nice

one very fun thing about this story is that they use a lot of German names - and those names provide interesting and sometimes funny 'hidden in plain sight' clues about the people and locations.

YAY!!! This makes me soooo Happy!! Thanks Teeaboo!

happy

AHHHHH! I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS.

One of my fav mangas and anime. Real comment today evening, but: had no idea you were gonna watch, Tee; surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one! :D <3 and my month of patreon hasn't finished yet, so, yay, I can see you do this in real time (almost) just for a bit, yatta :D XD pffftt
