Your Leg Workout Changes When Your Pelvis Moves
Join me in side for more
Something I think gets missed in leg workouts is that your pelvis is never just sitting there while your legs do all the work. Change the position of your pelvis and suddenly the same exercise can feel completely different.
Try standing and gently tip the front of your pelvis forward. Your lower back will usually arch a little more and your sit bones move backwards. This is an anterior pelvic tilt. Now slowly tip the pelvis the other way, bringing the front of the pelvis upward and allowing the lower back to flatten slightly. That's posterior tilt. Neither position is automatically “good” or “bad.” They are movements your pelvis is designed to make.
Now try a simple squat or glute bridge and pay attention to what happens. If you exaggerate either tilt, you'll probably notice the effort moving around. Your pelvis changes the relationship between your hips, spine and femurs, which changes muscle lengths and how you organise force. Suddenly “work your legs” becomes much more interesting than simply counting repetitions.
This is also why two people can copy exactly the same exercise and feel it in completely different places. What your pelvis is doing matters.
Why Does the Same Lunge Feel Completely Different?
Have you ever copied someone's lunge perfectly and wondered why you feel it somewhere completely different?
One of the reasons is what you can't immediately see: the relationship between your pelvis and torso.
A lunge isn't one fixed exercise. Change the pelvic tilt, allow the torso to travel forward, or keep yourself more upright and you change the mechanics of the movement. That can change where the demand is distributed through the hip and leg and which muscles have to work hardest.
I made this little video because I think we learn exercises much better when we understand what we're actually changing rather than memorising “correct” positions. I want you to watch my pelvis and torso rather than simply watching how deep I go.
Try it with me and tell me: where do you feel the biggest difference?
There is much more of this inside because once you understand it in a lunge, squats become really interesting.

What?? Damn nice.
Damn ❤️🔥🔥😍
Great explanation of the pelvis tilts.
Visual added to the verbal description truly provided the image of what's involved and what does it look like when done properly!
Working on my torso and pelvic tilt is wrecking havoc on my shoulder ugh! Luckily you're distracting Love you darling 😘
