Parallel Hooniverse feat. Dan McQuillan
*SORRY FOR THE LATE BONUS*
Riley, Milo, Hussein, and Alice speak with Goldsmiths researcher Dan McQuillan, the author of 'Resisting AI: An Anti-fascist Approach to Artificial Intelligence' regarding the breathless optimism of politicians in the UK and elsewhere (particularly in Queensland, Australia) claiming they'll use AI to administer state benefits and services. Probably not a good idea!

Can we petition milo to recite every Dracula Flow in his trump voice?
Do you think Neom has anything to do with Spec Ops The Line getting delisted
bunker toilets are a solved issue, I've shat underground and despite them being kinda weird looking it's hardly a show stopper. and i'd imagine the toilets would probably simply flow down to a tank under the tomb and then lifted in the same way as sewage is lifted anywhere else (seriously the UK has tons of sewage pumps they're fairly well figured out)
I can't believe the UAE went with "BRAIN" when "Al-AI" (al-ai) was there to be used
Digital Australia could also be a Landfill Indie band.

As civil servant myself all I have to say about this AI in public service is AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. We have a difficult enough time creating online portals to replace aging systems that have their own little bespoke features and requirements
But what if you could use generative AI to update your COBOL to Java°? (I was looking for evidence that when NJ called for COBOL programmers it was because the Java frontend broke¹, and stumbled on the specific thing that I think is going to break basically every functioning, societal-load-bearing computer system we have left) [0] https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/watsonx-code-assistant-4z/1.0?topic=transform-transforming-cobol-java-by-using-generative-ai [1] https://www.wired.com/story/cant-file-unemployment-dont-blame-cobol/
Vanderbilt sending an ai written letter to students after the MSU school shooting is levels of American that make me never want to finish school
Lmao, Riley's being optimistic with "20 minutes ago"
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking "where will the shit go?"

How can you digitally hoon when there are no legs in the metaverse for touching the pedals
It's a futuristic horror tale: I must hoon but I have no feet.
I so badly want a NEOM Bioshock game. Just make all the stuff literally as described and then experience what happens when the world's worst people find out they didn't account for any engineering considerations. You can even put out a DLC whenever they announce a new bullshit district
If we’re going to have AI early modern Catholicism when do we get AI Calvinism
aquellum sounds liie desert bioshock
This is a very easily perceptible joke based on a brief aside in the episode: video gaming cries out for its Alexios I Komnenos.
Sadly all my clown friends are too reflexively liberal to appreciate Trump _as_ clown and not take it as a personal insult.
Oh I just love phases like "above the void."
Aquellem is just the line but rotated 90 degrees
So what you’re saying is that visiting an AI NPC shopkeeper at 6:30pm will be like visiting a Manhattan Trader Joe’s at 6:30pm? I mean at least Trader Joe’s has like thirty cashiers working at once during peak hours in Manhattan.
I mean what I expect will happen is that Baldur’s Gate AI NPC shopkeepers will actually be call-center workers in the Philippines.
Working out to this is impossible, I’m laughing too much
With regard to AI compute time: in all fairness, AI models generally use the same type of computing hardware as games do—floating-point processors, AKA GPUs—so I don’t see any reason AI in a game wouldn’t run on the same hardware as the graphics. That is, on the low end, you’ll have people streaming games to their phones; in the middle you’ll have the weirdos who buy Steam Decks, and on the high end you’ll have people with gaming PCs and people running AAA games locally on high-end iPhones. This is just to say that the computing load for in-game AI will probably be largely indistinguishable from the computing load for graphics, so it will probably not have any particular effect on the larger trends in gaming beyond games requiring newer and newer devices.
The computational load to run most LLMs, even locally, is quite intense. Plus, those resources will be occupied with other tasks, ie running the actual game engine.
Trump is a clown, or, to quote someone on 10K Posts (I forget who), it’s unfortunate Trump went in the direction of fascism, because he would have made a great drag queen. (My attitude towards drag queens is that drag queens are clowns, in the Commedia Dell’Arte sense of the word. Hence, as we all know, the drag-queen panic in England is particularly ridiculous considering how much English folk theatre is basically Ye Olde drag queens.)
I would like to refer Milo to Anders Lee of Pod Dam America who studied at L'Ecole Gaulier and asked Phillippe Gaulier about whether or not Trump could be considered a clown .
"There's a STARM Man waiting in the sky!"
"He'd like to be prime minister, Even if he's full of lies! (Show them!) Let the think thanks show it, Let the journos know it, And Carry on as usual!" *solo* 🎸
Looking forward to the Saudi Geofront
Monday coffee without my morning TrashFuture bonus is literally an act of violence directed against me, personally
"the generator" sounds too similar to "sanctuary" from logans run
Mmnn!!! A little caramel!!! Sounds delicious.
Of course it isn't a good idea, that's why the UK government is going to do it
🐷👍
