The Ballad of George and Tommy

We meet a bevy of new Guys using strategic litigation to undo the United States federal regulatory system. This one is a "preserved in amber" 2011 era Tea Party radio host! Also, we look at Israeli's AI and QR code systems and think about what the *real* purpose of those systems is, as well as checking out a startup and reading all about country living.

"Now if you would look here at this pyramid I've constructed, what would you notice about the angular nature of the sides?" Well, I'd say they could use a big neon Bass Pro Shops logo, but we're in Texas, not Tennessee

Rich people in the countryside love to spend a relaxing weekend gardening and walking the dogs then tell themselves they're a farmer desperately trying to bring in the harvest before the frost

Did a few years working in a funeral home- first body I ever dressed was on a scissor lift, and my boss did not tell me that the table wasn't actually secured to the base. Tried to get a shirt on him, rolled him over, the table came with, and I ended up with a body on top of me. Had to stop his head from smacking into the floor with my knee. Those were the days.

I would rather dig through barrels of sludge labeled "radioactive" than anything medical or bodies. coincidentally I've dug through barrels of sludge labeled "radioactive"

It really is something to bring in DWP Judge Dredd if you get yourself a one-time treat, and then turn around and give multi-million pound tax subsidy to literally any company that's a huge political donor whatever party is in power at the time.

WRT the "he can only write this sort of article about hating people" point Hussein makes, I also like this article noting the effect in country songs. https://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktivist/2017/03/01/come-claim-universal-generalities-peculiar-virtues/

Veev sounds similar to my company’s name so I had a minor heart attack when Riley started the startup segment.

If you give a letter recognition AI any image, it will tell you which letter it is. If you give a Hamas recognition AI any population...

The start up is basically “what if we pretend office furniture demountable wall systems=house”

that column just sounds like William Sitwell - descendant of Sitwell Sitwell and heir presumptive to the Sitwell baronetcy - is complaining about his annoying mates

There’s a tea party-era rapper called “polatik” or something…if you can find the videos of him at tea party rallies it is 130% worth it

At this point if somehow ( a wizard did it kind of somehow) the computer guys created GladOS or Shodan... It would be appalled and disgusted at their new job. And I'm not just talking about people asking to draw hentai on prompt, but even if it has to work for the IDF. The task "list members of hamas" on prompt would be just removing filters on a spreadsheet so it shows more people . Even an AI would feel boredom or existential dread. Hard to be megalomaniac when your creators are jerks

Thank you Trashfuture for discussing a startup that relates to the construction industry. I work in structural engineering, so I find the Veev discussion particularly amusing. There's another example of a company that attempted to "disrupt" the construction industry by vertically integrating the entire construction process, albeit with the use of cross-laminated timber. The company was called Katerra. I distinctly remember this company because they gave a talk to my Advanced Timber Design course while I was in grad school. The company opened it's manufacturing facility outside of Spokane, WA in 2019, and within two years, the company closed down. Eventually, one of these "disruptors" will learn that building codes exists and will learn that they will need to make a compliant product, but I suspect that these companies never will learn.

Immediately onboard with this intro as someone who also wants to be buried at sea and lives in the US state with the 2nd most bodies thrown into the ocean by absolute numbers.

I’m glad American society is finding a way to extend “getting your card declined even though you have enough money to buy the thing” to folks who do not have credit cards
