Waltz with The Sims

An social media marketing turned AI company was contracted by the UN to "solve the Israel/Palestine" conflict and it's as horrifically vapid as it sounds. Also, we check in on the Sad Sadiq's quest to keep The Sphere out of London (successful; we will be filing an appeal), and read a little piece by Julie Burchill on her slow metamorphosis into Britain's Andy Rooney.

The conflict is not only not complicated, it's also very much not "centuries old," but the fact that they say that is telling

"a rube goldberg machine to unfurl a free palestine banner" brilliant, alice. btw did anyone else feel like the quote (paraphrasing) "we want to create simulated people so we can test things on them which it's unethical to do to real people" was saying the quiet part ominously loudly? "we want to do unethical things on a mass scale this will let us game those things out beforehand."

Y'all's War on Christmas takes are inane, but ours over in Sweden are like next level inane. We don't even call the holiday by a Christian name, we still use the direct translation of "yuletide". Which means that whenever anyone dares to advertise something in december and describe the season by any other word, it's the "political correctness gone mad" event of the year as if holding on to the pre-christian term wasn't peak fall of the west by the same metric. It's just direct import of the American talking points to a cultural context where they make less than 0 sense. The big one this year is that some moderate party (basically Tories) MP finally noticed IKEA's Christmas products have been part of a series called VINTERFEST since 2017, and deduced that this is ofc a case of removing the yule from yuletide and forgetting our cultural roots as Norse-Germanic pagans or whatever the fuck. Fuck me. Skål or something

As a half Arab it is truly terrifying that 'AI' like Tay who immediately became racist af one day out is going to put me in a concentration camp. I'm going to have to try and convince my AI public defender that the AI cop is only arresting me because the chans and marble statue Twitter guys' data says I'm a threat.

There's an "English" pub in Paris that's across the street from a rather large church. Nothing takes you out of its "Englishness" quite like watching people go in for Vespers when you're outside drinking.

As someone who works in marketing and whose job this AI would take, I guarantee you the first 6 or so of the 83 truths or whatever they mention are: age, sex, race, marital status, presence of children, and location. Then they will wade into second-order truths such as: homeownership, education level, income bracket, and occupation. Revolutionary stuff

I thought for a moment the "tone" part would be literal and the AI would be cueing up background music and sounds dynamically while you were shopping or getting ads (like an advertising brown note or infrasound).
