My Dinner with Elon
Rishi Sunak gives a masterclass in real, genuine laughter while essentially having a post-politics job interview with Elon Musk for a crowd of AI longtermists... also, we discuss the sudden groundswell of "you can't protest for peace on ARMISTICE day!" that has swept Britain's commentariat and political classes.

I like how the UK has collectively forgotten what WWI even was, as though the Government had our best interests at heart for 4 years of brutal slaughter, most of which was deemed pointless in hindsight or at the time by the very people who fought it and prosecuted it. What fucking Freedoms came of WWI, even if just in the public perception? Have they just forgotten how the numerals work? EDIT - Never mind this was said verbatim about 2mins later. Agreed.
It's so frustrating to listen to Musk's side of that interview, because the whole "AI will do all the work - you'll only have a job if you want one - the real challenge will be finding meaning"? That's just Iain Banks's "The Culture" series, which we know he's read at least some of, but has somehow managed to miss any point it ever tried to make. All of the egalitarian political philosophy, the communism, the critique of interventionist foreign policy, everyone transing their damn genders? Right over his head. Somehow what he got was "if I can summon the machine god, then all those slaves mining my lithium will have been worth it"
Still angry two days later. In the setting of The Culture, there are a whole bunch of other societies with all the same technology. Same AI, same replicators or whatever, all the same space future stuff, but most of them are horrific dystopias because they're not communists. Explicitly, textually, the backstory for the culture is that (like Star Trek) they did communism first and got the cool tech afterwards. Cause the point is that we could have that now! We could provide for everybody's needs now, even if some people still did some work. We could make sure everybody had what they need, and then we could work on space travel and body modification and stuff, but people like Musk are deliberately choosing to prevent that.
I don't love that I'm pretty sure my apartment building works the same way the WeWork buildings do regarding heating
Wearing scrubs at work while I listen to this and I can confirm, they are comfortable.
"Age of abundance" not elon signaling to the Elden Ring fans again. (He keeps doing this)
That's why it's Liverpool Street instead of Liverpool Straße
The Rishi laugh killed me
Riley throwing himself on the grenade by watching the Musk interview
Keir absolutely spot on about robot wars. Chaos 2 was a fucking coward
According to Jonathan Gullis, would it be more offensive for brits to protest Israeli imperialism on Armistice Day, or for railway workers to strike on Armed Forces Day?
Milo's Rishi reminds more than a little of Richard Aoyade in Garth Merenghi's Darkplace

Wolf chicken and cabbage? What the hell kind of freak Fox chicken, worm puzzles are you taught in school?
Stay close to your desks And never go to sea And you all may be rulers Of the Queen’s Navy
I dunno I could get behind a drunken noodle and plantain boxty smothered in spicy curry

the entire UK is now just that one episode of the Thick of It where Peter Mannion has to present the Silicon Playgrounds initiative and is so confused by what it is that he gets the whole project canned
Nice Lambo, would be a shame if something happened to it at the commemorative coin dispute.
Hearing about the Rishi - Elon summit was the most cringe thing I've ever heard should of had a content warning.
Milo’s Tom Waits is actually a perfect Iggy Pop
im sure yall have gotten this one before, but in case if you haven't PLEASE pass onto milo that his impression of sunak reminds me so much of evart from disco elysium, (it makes me imagine sunak (im not british) is evart and i laugh) that every time he says something in that voice I expect him to start it with "Harry!" but even more specifically it makes me think of a made up line someone did like (coped the tweet) "Harry, of course it's a real tunnel! I wouldn't waste valuable union time painting a fake tunnel on the wall for you to run into. What would be the point of seeing you sprint into it so hard your body gets all crushed up like an accordion? I'm a busy man, Harry!"
i wish there was a restaurant owner i could shock with my accent
I don't understand how Elon talks about AI replacing jobs and also that there's an under population crisis. How is a bigger population supposed to support itself with the loss of so many jobs because surely it won't be by the benevolence of people like Elon and Sunak.
Oh, that's easy - 'underpopulation' is a white supremacist dog whistle for 'brown people will breed us out of existence.'
Fucks sake even listening to the transcript Riley put together is painful. Rishi simping so hard when meeting a billionaire with more money than him who didnt have to marry into it. Pathetic.
Rishi Sunak weaponizing the Mandela Effect to fight dissent
Gentlemen, you can't call for peace here, this is the war memorial!
Oh god yes work is so stupidly tedious today but I can listen to podcasts. Thank you, TF!

God I love that movie
