The Dunder Mifflin Of It All feat. Well There's Your Problem
On this week's bonus, we're joined by the entire cast of Well There's Your Problem to discuss some odd trends: residential office refits that are unliveable, the world's biggest cruise ship that helps make everything else unliveable, and a company making hyper-secure golf course fortress residences in Scotland for multimillionaires to live when everywhere else is unliveable. No slides on this one, but a lot of jokes!

In case anyone needs it here is the listing on Zillow https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/777-Grand-Ave-SUITE-204-San-Rafael-CA-94901/2068769551_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare
For those curious, it is Mic Dicta episode 11 around 40 minutes in.
No one cares and i Realize That but we say, “San ra-FELL” around here. In other news I’m a new patron and haven’t listened to WTYP yet and I am LOVING the lads PA ass accents 🥰 I had already planned on becoming a listener but wow
If you want more golf apocalypse content there's a currently airing anime about two girls falling in love in a post golf apocalypse world called Birdie Wing: A Golf Girls Story. It's pretty good the golf mafia assassinates a politician with a rocket launcher to prevent an investigation into their golf crimes.
Okay I am so excited for this one
They built this fucking ship in 8 months .-.
And [redacted] can sink it in less than 3 hours.
More like cruise SHIT
US suburb ass amenities
Hold up, we know that wine crate foam and the sound proofing foam are very different
Where are my slides :(
Oh yeah they actually did release it on WTYP also, despite what they said in the episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
Can IO Interactive sponsor Alice? I legit only started playing the first of the trilogy for free on epic games, followed by like getting the trilogy with all DLCs on steam, due to her references over the past couple of years (I mean, she started it and y'all continued and I love those bits).
Does anyone know the title of the Stanford episode? I tried searching for it but couldn’t find it
"Fun" fact: I was on the icon of the seas first sea trial for work
As a local resident, I regret to inform you all that it is actually pronounced “San Ra-fell”
That one’s really on us for pronouncing it that way tho, tbf…
everything discussed on the episode is horrifying but also Extremely My Shit in terms of expensive, massive, pre-haunted spaces. love this cast!
Long time listener, first time commenter! I finally have money to get a patron subscription! Love the show, very happy to finally hear the bonus eps!!
Welcome to the pig pen, fellow hog.
I grew up in a place like that. It was hell. Many of the teens were suicidal because it was so boring, controlling, and isolating
Always a temptation to jump in front of an elderly man drunkenly speeding a golf cart down the gated community sidewalk just to feel something
"Going into the same 5 shops which are bizarrely in every other town"... that's just walking into any Old City in Europe
Hope one of y’all have read Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon. Because the boy and Vietnam vet that escape the ruined “underground condo bunker town” after the nukes go off. It’s exactly this scenario. Except it works about as well as it sounds like it will. Poorly.
Just needs FRIEND to keep the party going
Roz and Liam confirmed for TF East Coast??
Can't wait to be sexed into the tequila golf course housing complex
Back on the day, in this case the early 90s, I worked in hotels and casinos and getting a job on a cruise ship was considered a great option with good pay and conditions. Mind you working in a hotel was also a liveable wage. Amazing how late stage capitalism has fucked us all.
As Alice says, the bar-staff-to-night-bus proposal is extremely Marxist. He said that in communist society, it would be possible to do one thing today and another tomorrow, to tend bar in the afternoon and drive a bus in the evening.
Are Glasgow bars going to have Shanghai tunnels like Portland, OR?
"A lot of the people who take cruises don't have a lot of other leisure options." Why do you think that, Riley? For anyone, there should be many leisure options before you get to cruises, no? Maybe not as such a contained experience. I was surprised how cheap US short cruises to Mexico, Bahamas, or Alaska are.
As a night bus driver (not in Glasgow). WHO DO THEY THINK WE TAKE HOME ON A NIGHT?! It’s bar staff! These are people who we take home that can’t afford a car, so how on earth are they going to get from the bar to a bus depot, then when they’re finished from the bus depot back home?!
Another dude from the town.
So, discovery land is just where the jelly people from Society go to summer and shunt?
I went on an Alaskan cruise with my parents a few years ago. It was fine, I guess. The weirdest thing is there was a show in the ship’s theater that featured Russian dancers and the start of the show involved archival footage of red square with the Soviet national anthem playing. I didn’t know these people were Russian until then and my first thought was that Trump had sold Alaska back to Russia so he could buy Greenland, or something, and this was Putin’s transmission to his new subjects.
Did people enjoy the red square and anthem, any reactions? What was the rest of the dance show about?
will the youtube upload have the slides?
I think if someone hit me while drunk driving that'd be quite....inconvenient
This is going to be chaos, isnt it?
re. the goofy joke, someone has been reading Cormac McCarthy.
Too much DOOM means that every time someone says "The Icon of", my brain instantly fills in "Sin"
Missing Devon. But Yay Liam!
checked the notes for the slides but I was disappointed
No doubt COVID-19 played a part in this ensconcing of our financial superiors, but I'd point Riley at a 2010 opinion piece in the Financial Times (magazine?): "I’ve seen the future, and it’s Monaco" by Simon Kuper. I often think of its closing paragraph, which is about apartheid South Africa and not the Genoese tax haven in France. It talks about Mark Thatcher in passing; I know that will convince you to give it a go, Riley.
Waste to natural gas is literally the dead city plot lol
I was soooo hoping it would be the free one to spam all my contacts with it.
And by all my contacts I actually mean my siblings and absolutely no one else.
Swindled does the best coverage of this incident. Go check them out: https://youtu.be/XeW0kos-mTk
The Verruckt reference reminded me a song named after it by Howard Kremer (which came out 2 years before the death): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK4eYVQzGSw
It comes with lyrics like "I don't want to die on the waterslide"
It’s not the same without the Devon edits…
Trash is your problem in the Future.
Yay Liam. (Not really.) (You can't delete this, Liam.) (Maybe someone else can though.)
on the plus side, twice as much alice!
How much do we have to pay for the slides?
Well there’s your trash
Crossover! Disappointed this isn't 3 hours long.
Just listen to it 3 times
