Frenemies with Benefits feat. Juliet Jacques

It's the free one!

This week, friend of the show Juliet Jacques (@zinovievletter) joins Riley, Milo, Nate, and Alice to discuss her brain-destroying foray into ‘sensible disagreement’ politics podcasts in the UK, featuring guys with definitely no baggage such as George Osborne, Alistair Campbell, Rory Stewart, and more. We also discuss a startup that promises a revolution in being even more annoying.

Check out Juliet’s work on her site here! https://julietjacques.com

I cannot listen to an episode with Juliet Jacques.without thinking about the shoe column and dying.

I used to just take my graphing calculator and make programs that spammed "BUSH DID 9/11" until it crashed

all those guys desperately want to live out The Thick Of It yet they refuse to be yelled at by an insane Scottish man for minor decorum screwups. The hypocrisy is palpable

I welcome the low-orbit geostationary Starmer

Analysing media as kayfabe fits too well. Like, the swiss Invaliden-Versicherung (think of it as nationalised disability insurance) has started straight up rejecting obvious claims, forcing people to litigate for their life. Our left party has given some timid protest, but I wondered why they never said what it obviously is: Murder. (FYI, the nationalised insurance is only a bit underfunded. It does actually have the money. The people in charge just do not care.)

PBS Newshour does the polite disagreement segment every night with David Fucking Brooks and some milquetoast liberal who never mentions that David Brooks just makes things up constantly.

There's at least six episodes to be had in a scripted series where, every week, two venal establishment politicians gradually become utterly enraged at each other over the pettiest shit imaginable.

This has to be hosted by Nadine Dorries

The Long Kiss Goodnight but Starmer is the leading role and instead of an assassin is actually a full blown Maoist.

I've never actually confirmed this because I don't like to meet my heroes, but from my understanding Muntaẓar al-Zaydi is the "al-Jazeera English vs. al-Jazeera" joke embodied in a single person, which is to say you could just have him do a sensible disagreement podcast with himself. (And not dub or sub what he says in Arabic.)

I swear the fuck down along with the after dinner speech circuit, this is increasingly becoming the retirement plan for various cosmic horror monsters in British politics. Obliterate the country in the name of capital, extract as much you can out of whatever high position of power you have, then deftly slink off to sit in an armchair on a stage, regaling tales of what you did in Parliament to an audience of gullible centrist dads.

Whats more is the blatant emulation of thatcherism, these fucks aren't even being original. This is like an average crank neonazi hardcore band posting on mastodon compared to varg vikernes freely writing neonazi "folklore" after getting out of jail.
