Britainology 47: T.E. Lawrence feat. Alice Caldwell-Kelly
For this month's first Britianology, we bring on our TF cohost Alice to discuss one of British history's strangest men. That's right, we're discussing Lawrence of Arabia, T.E. Lawrence himself, or any of the multiple aliases with which he enlisted in the British military in order to get big strapping guys to beat him up. We enjoyed recording this and hope it's a fun listen.

phenomenal ep
The great TE Morrissey album, Your Meat Is Murder
Amazing how Nate’s ”perverted English gentleman" voice sounds simultaneously like David Baddiel & Baddiel’s former comedy partner Rob Newman’s “Jarvis” character in this…

oof, need a KJB now about that 1980s BIGGLES movie
Gonna have to be frank. Those acronyms that Alice used all just sounded like they could be ‘next gen’ trains
heyy (with the intention of stealing your knob-kerri)
"Carry On, Lawrence": a classic double-entendre-filled "ooo-er" movie with lots of subtle jokes and unsubtle racism, set in the Sykes-Picot milieu. Every so often a character stumbles into a room while Lawrence is beaten by large strong men, and they slowly, mutely back out of the room. No one ever mentions it. Lawrence struts around with a big grin afterwards and people make heterosexual jokes about him. And yes I've watched "Carry On Up The Khyber", claimed the best of the series.
Who licenced Alice to tell these cis men what AGP and HSTS means
Tbh, I've never even heard of bloody Biggles and I'm from here.
Jetlag may have been an encumbrance but colonial pervert voice saved the podcast for Nate.
William Potter on being the "bottom" ranked officer, "Owe, that hurts." Lawrence: "The key, Mr. Potter is not minding that it hurts"
Tee-Hee Lawrence
Jannah Knows I'm Miserable Now
Between Lawrence, Meinertzhagen, and Kim Philby’s dad, early 20th century Arabia certainly attracted some all-time British Guys.
We have resched peak Milo
I'm reminded of Irish nationalist, journalist, and human rights abuse investigator Roger Casement, who wrote extensively about having loads of sex with rocking twinks.
That whole story is wild, it’s commonly thought his diaries (which were all about having sex with as many men as possible) where released at his trial (for treason against the empire, the best crime) to prove his low moral character but it was actually his defense that released them as a kind of “he is clearly insane and should be in a hospital” move. Anyway, handsome guy, apparently a size queen.
What did we do to be worthy of that serenading? Beautiful.
Hejaz hands!
Immediate flashbacks to the time my film student ex-girlfriend asked me to watch Lawrence of Arabia (4 hrs including intermission!!) with her in theatres and I agreed, because apparently I am a simp for pretty girls. 6/10 could have been much shorter and also we broke up a few months later
Hey now. Everyone needs to see Lawrence of Arabia once in its lifetime. And if you have to see it with a pretty girl so be it
