I can't believe the queen waited until Milo was on holiday to die

I long for a Nate and Alice deep dive on the various types of Sloane Ranger guards we're seeing this weekend and their likely batshittery (the young ones with those tight fades! the 1840s cavalry guys! what are they like under their plumes)

I wish it were less Carolingian and more Merovingian. I’d love to see King Charles get his head slammed in a trunk.

The only Americans opining about the death of the Queen are conservatives who are just letting the mask slip on their preferred system of government. Also, I have been trying to explain the House of Lords to my friends over a long text thread and the response has been “what is this arcane landlord wizard shit?”

Alice, I wish I could share your love for Americans on this one, but I got told I was doing N*zi shit because I called the queen a parasite. A lot of liberals love the ruling class, including even the monarchy.

If there's any Royal that looks like some creature from The Warp as a result of their weird magic blood, it's Charles.

Alice said "Australia is already gone" regarding the commonwealth, but I think she underestimates the self-hating monarchist urge of Brisbane Baz.

Don't like it there's the outback.

I was bemused that county cricket played on today while the Premier League took the weekend off for the mental health of its gammon fans or whatever, county cricket being quite an establishment institution. (Billy Windsor is Surrey's landlord, for example.) Anyway, check out the thrilling relegation battle between Somerset and Warwickshire this week. It's on for four days so you've got plenty of opportunities to watch it.

As far as American dead queen reactions one of my favorites were clips of the UFC show Saturday where they did the "r.i.p" screen for the queen and the crowd immediately booed.

I’ll never forget making my way home on Thursday evening only to find out the Elizabeth Line had broken itself as a mark of respect

There’s a wonderful little quote from the Irish Times on the whole subject of the British Royal Family that I, as an American, find VERY funny: “Having a monarchy next door is a little like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and has daubed their house with clown murals, displays clown dolls in each window and has an insatiable desire to hear about and discuss clown-related news stories. More specifically, for the Irish, it’s like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and, also, your grandfather was murdered by a clown.”

There's this french invention for dealing with royals, you should maybe look into that. 15% cuts for the royal family or something.

It's strange, my parents are Irish and quite republican, but they got genuinely emotional about the queen dying. Their view is very much that Kate and William are the "Down to earth" royals who deserve out love, so perhaps they're already starting to market new royals
