The Shawinigan Handshake

This week, we’re talking about a mental-health startup that’s even worse than the man made horrors you thought were beyond your comprehension, some particularly spicy UK legal news, and a simple request for people to be honest about what they actually want, politically. Hope you enjoy!

Milo talking about sucking cock in a Canadian Hoser accent has got to be the funniest thing I’ve heard in months.

Doing the Putin=Hitler analogy to own the left is something I expect from the unhinged warmongers at the Atlantic Council, not Trashfuture.

I feel like saying that "we" should remember and take responsibility for arming terrible people is a bit like saying that "we" should kick the football this time instead of pulling it away at the last second. Have we ever done that before?

I just wanted to leave you with the fact that Deepwell CEO Mike Wilson was the founder of GAMECOCK MEDIA GROUP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamecock_Media_Group

I'd be careful not to conflate defending one's home with defending the state. It's of course understandable that Ukrainians are taking up arms but ultimately what's at stake is national sovereignty in one way or another, not so much an existential threat or even a conflict of ideologies. There isn't an outcome that won't be miserable for the population at this point (be it under Russian occupation, prolonged warfare or whatever fascist martial law will emerge in the wartime/postwar regime) so I don't see an obvious, morally correct position to take and it's not clear to me that more weapons would lead to the better outcome. Resistance against the Russian invasion might be principled, but if all this is about are the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state over the Donbas and Crimea, and guarantees regarding NATO, then these are definitely not things worth dying or killing for.

I've been assured that this is a morally cowardly position on par with the French reactionaries who preferred to submit to Hitler and create a rightist puppet state rather than fight and continue co-existing with the left.

I hope Guaido is getting divorced by his wife multiple times.

Milo has seemingly forgotten about the existence of GM if he’s calling Volkswagen the most evil car company

Honesly, playing a game like Townscaper is more beneficial to your mental health than this.

This is why the gang are the masters and we are mere hogs. After referencing a bit in a prior episode about being in the foreign policy apparatus, the episode gradually drifted into deadpan Wilsonianism. The work did kind of break down around the time "no war but the class war" was derided, but I may just not be able to spot a worked shoot when I see one. Yes, this was an incredibly long Shawinigan Handshake joke, everyone's favorite sexual activity.

does IR stand for Imperial Realism because that is legitimately a large part of what i am hearing this episode honestly No, Ukraine and its fascist national guardsmen being armed to the teeth is not the pragmatic leftist thing at all, whether you care about anti-imperialism or the consequences coming back to the west like 9/11, or not. and you point out the exact reason this isn't good a few sentences after accepting that its basically fine for it to happen - the Ukrainian state will keep fighting with the absolute stockpile of weapons they've been given, and whether or not they win does not matter for most innocent people in Ukraine - the government will be capitalist and/or fascist either way when the dust settles, whether or not peace is worked out. because you're not considering that Zelenski has an Azov bullet pointing at the back of his head kf he shows any sign of wanting it to work out. if Ukraine "stalls" Russia it will be at incredible human cost and i heavily doubt they will meaningfully "win". it is pure fascist death drive that is keeping Ukraine at any advantage and that momentum will not stop, so it is always going to be more principled to say they absolutely really should not be given any weapons they are saying they need

I agree, flooding ukraine with weapons is bad. But do you want the population to get rolled over by tanks because some of them have fascist tendencies? Hell, let the tanks roll over switzerland and lichtenstein, we have done more bad in the world than Ukraine. And sure, there will be consequences, bad consequences 20 years from now. But rolling over countless cities is not a bad concequence too? This whole thing is just a giant bag of sadness. There is no good outcome here, and it will get way worse in the future. IMO as a leftist you should stop caring about the foreign policy hogs, and care about refugees.

There was probably a time where "surrender might be the best path forward" made sense, with the presumption that there was no way for Ukraine to actually stop Russia. It's one thing to fight for your home and quite another to die for a lost cause that is obviously lost. I think that argument isn't moral cowardice in the slightest. But, uh, it turns out that the Russian military has turned over maintenance for its equipment to the primal god of chaos, so that argument is utterly nonsensical now. All the evidence suggests that it is very possible for Ukraine to stymie the Russian advance and make it too expensive for the Russian military to continue the operation.

I still can't get over the idea of flame-retardant tanks lined entirely with asbestos... Easy as that! :)
