A Dome That Sucked, Part 2

In which we get into the specific zones of the Millennium Dome, their various corporate sponsors, and what they said about Britain c. 2000 and how New Labour saw its subjects' lives. We completely lost our minds doing this and we hope you enjoy.

I am still mad my parents didn’t take us to the Dome

This is an amazing walkthrough of our dome. It's highly chaotic and accidentally vague. It's amazing. https://youtu.be/EVl1jHrCAs4

I think 'hey, check out the boy from this angle' is the most British thing Nate has ever said

Yo can we get a link to the site Hussein found? I'm dying to see what incredible things remain on this relic of a site. EDIT: I found it! http://www.hedges.org.uk/Genesis/OVO-Dome1.htm

Most of the time when TF talks about Britain I have no idea what they're on about, but as a small child I was actually in that silly country in late 2000 and went to see The Dome. Like the hosts though I only remembered the giant body so listening to this episode was an absolute fever dream.

Serious Play Zone? or Sirius Play Zone? Was this a dogging spot?

I think Gordon Brown had the Dome down as one of those "Super Casinos" that he spent his time in office salivating over. I used to think he was the worst Prime Minister ever until about 2010.

lolol I wanted to see if any core memories would be triggered so I googled ‘millennium dome body’ and the first result is a hit piece by my dad https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2019/dec/01/millennium-dome-20-years-on-new-labour

Speaking of Detective Pikachu, does anyone else remember seeing pokemon at the Millennium Dome? The only memory I have of my visit was pestering my dad to buy me a toy pikachu that I've kept ever since

In non-tent news, I felt this was the right place to help anyone who watched the Sky News interview with Dan Warne (founder of Deliveroo) talk about his new start-up in Brighton. I'll summarise; "We deliver an omni-channel platform to bring physical spaces for consumer connection. Authentic brands with a dual-track of interpersonal and digital propositions to build-out in the physical environment. The food sector lacks hyper-scalability. We work in the Hotel space, the Pub space, catering and others who don't have a delivery proposition. We give them an eco-system and access to scale thereafter, we can incubate the brand and introduce scale opportunity." I think he does food or something.

Was someone at Ford a serious Dark Tower fan or something? "Ka" makes zero sense outside of that context as an everyday phrase. OMFG I remember using RM computers! Just like shitty 16 bit edutainment games and point & click nonsense. This is making me wonder now if there are RM computers still around, out of sheer curiosity of course.

When I left my sixth form (and former high school) three years ago, I'd estimate that at least 2/3 computers on the premises were these tremendously shit RM all-in-one type PCs that were built out of like 2 inch thick plastic to try and prevent students from destroying them, which obviously did not work.

Knocking a small domino that says "New Labour investment in Thames River Transport" that leads somehow to "Woolwich Ferry doing doughnuts for the NHS"

That time the government tried to manifest an Adam Curtis documentary. Wonderful stuff, thank you!

New Labour tried to build this postmodern piece that would reflect whoever saw it and they just ended up reflecting themselves

The declared desire to bring more minds together does nothing to disprove the hypothesis that Peter Mandelson is trying to achieve human instrumentality.
