The Brian Georgetown Massacre

It's the free one!

This week, we learn the story of the Diapers dot com billionaire who wants to build a utopian city in the desert based on the principles of Georgism. Does this sound like The Line? Well, it’s been compared to it by the same credulous weirdos who love that, too. Also, a startup!

More seriously(?), Wall Street people definitely consult astrologers. Not because they believe it, but because enough people make decisions based on astrology that it has a measurable effect on the market ¹. Meaning that there's now an astrological feedback loop in our phony baloney financial system. 1 https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2021/02/an-ancient-greek-approach-to-risk-and-the-lessons-it-can-offer-the-modern-world.html (anecdotal, but plausible)

My hedge fund is fronted by a Chinese restaurant near Wall street. They put stock tips instead of lottery numbers into the fortune cookies, and we insider trade on the tips. Where's my funding?

Walt Disney not only planned but managed to break ground on his Exceptional Prototype City Of Tomorrow. However, when he died all the investors pulled out and it nearly bankrupt the company. It's why all the films from 1967-85 have such poor animation.

I've never actually heard about this. Makes sense. It seems if you give anyone a large amount of money, they start having delusions about being the utopian founder of the new world. It's like when Hnery Ford tried to build a city in the Amazon. The place was inhospitable, the workers rightly hated his guts, and then he abandoned the place anyway.

Also, I thoroughly endorse Engels being a sub. Just doing Communism to fulfil his kink.

I'm at a point with American names, where if someone said they had a sibling legally called "Chairleg", I'd believe them. That is how ridiculous they are.

UK names are bad as well It's the wasp contingent giving us names like Randal Bullymore Forthwop. Half the other weird American names just turn out to be some weird Eastern European name for shepard or charcoal-burner or whatever.

fuck, you know how anime raises the stakes to ridiculous heights with more & more overpowered villains over time? the reveal of TF S4's new antagonist and the rattling off of half a dozen crazy startups felt like a villain going "now you will see my true power" and unleashing it

I can already see the opening titles, with the whole crew of various finance guy - ass villains stood in the shadows just before title screen splashes across.

Now that “The West’s a Fake” has been established as the arc words for this season, someone needs to filk this old rebel song: https://youtu.be/-lbSWFiPaak (the podcast crew will be issued with their Aran sweaters shortly)
