The Ol’ Ball and Blockchain ft. Tom Walker

It's the free one!

Comedian Tom Walker joins the gang to discuss how blockchain has finally disrupted dating! Then, we look at the demons pouring cryptocurrency poison into the ears of regulators in the US and U.K., a SoftBank insurance unicorn’s underwriting technology that isn’t, and we cap it off with a reading.

I remember like way way way way way back when the three generals problem Satoshi paper came out and blockchain wasn't still yet very understood and the one example that evangelists settled on was, this would be a great way to store land records in countries that don't have a strong legal system. In a way I feel like this NFT craze is the first IRL implementation of this idea that took off And *that* in turns remind me of that anecdote that the people who create the World Wide Web, the only practical example they could give of what normies could do with it was to share cooking recipes

The Vessel is more a staircase than escalator. Hudson yards is named after the subway yard that it basically sits on top of. The majority of the development is for commercial office leasing (oops that was a mistake). KKR, BCG, and Warner media (CNN) as well as many hedge funds and law firms have relocated there. There is also a very high end shopping mall. Most of what would be sold in Harrods has store front in the mall. Neman Marcus had its first store in NYC there but it shut down. Weirdly you had to go to the top floor of the mall to get to it. Sorry for pendant corner Riley, but there is a single apartment building currently in the plaza of Hudson yards. The apartments are very expensive, and markets itself as a luxury building. You can leave the plaza literally a block and get similar apartments and amenities for 1k-2k less. They are still finishing 1 more office block which will probably never be fully leased for obvious reasons. One last thing about the Vessel: the railings are stupidly low. I am 6’2” and the railing fall well below my waist. I hate heights so when I claimed it I basically left the moment I got up there. I actually said to my partner this is dangerous.

Low railings in high places give me nightmares.

Why does Silicon Valley always cycle through eugenics, phrenology, and public transportation? They're also charging 10 bucks to climb the murder honeycomb now.
