I Want to Get Rid of My Arms and Legs: TF Reviews 'Years & Years' (Part 1)
What if Black Mirror did This Is Us? What if your kid wanted to upload themselves to their dang phone? What if a Lib Dem wrote one of the worst TV dramas to ever exist? All of this, and more, in the TF review of Years and Years (episodes 1 and 2). We hope it doesn't count as a spoiler alert to say it is bad.

Milo said some very funny things looking from 2026 lol
Well, it certainly was the guy after Biden who did the fascist dystopia.
I also think you guys very much miss the point that just because something is shown to be bad in the shows future, doesn't mean it wasn't awful at the time...
Quite funny seeing Russel T indicated. Or horrifying?
Oh shit. I am the phone. This is what phones are going to be from now on.
Just casually dropping "second Russian revolution happened off screen, soviets are back".
Out of nowhere old Rusty fucking called the Ukraine thing just a year early, like Putin is really trying to prove the people with the worst politics completely right on this one
Having the Tory vote split into another UKIP would be great actually.
"Habbo TERF" is the best thing I have heard all year so far
this reminded me of a BBC radio drama that came out in 2018, called 'first world problems' ( still dont know why its called that). like years and years its a powerfully centrist story of an extended upper middle class family in greater Manchester living through the near future, but focuses on a civil war destroying the UK. it seemed to be attemping a totally credible and realistic, but just felt deeply bizzare to me. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b5stvj
Man you guys are going to love the ending
dear god this sounds astonishingly bad, thank u for inflicting this upon urselves for our amusement
Something about Riley reading these excerpts from shows and books out loud in such a matter-of-factly manner makes me hate the things even MORE than I normally would. Whether its Years & Years or one of the MP books. It just cuts through to the terrible so hard and fast.
:)
You guys where in rare form for this one.
Transgend: great verb
Surely a family WhatsApp group where you talk politics all day isn't that unusual? (Note: I have not watched Years and Years)
Rory Kinnear was in an episode of Black Mirror.
25 seconds in and Riley recapitulates Years and Years by having a point that no listener can possibly identify without being told by the hosts, and then getting confused by what he meant too
There was nowhere near enough of the 'bonus' sexy voice in this. I don't contribute via Patreon for only moderately sexy critiques of centrist TV!
Great episode, but I really do feel like every (stylistic) reason you guys hate it is somehow a reason I like it
I think this is the first time I've disagreed with TF on a piece of media. Not that the criticisms are wrong, they're absolutely correct, but there's something about how RTD writes that really appeals to me regardless. Maybe it's because I got used to it as a kid with Doctor Who and now have nostalgia.
If you've not seen it I recommend It's a Sin. There's nothing wrong with liking things, even if people say it's crap and they're right.
https://youtu.be/0xI_oqv3Eyo was compelled to look it up and now I want everyone to see it. Really is weird to hear "remember in 2008 when politics was boring, I miss those days" said completely earnestly
It's a Sin is a much better RTD joint, probably because it came from a much more personal place.
I loved it's a sin, but I only discovered I'm queer less than 18 months ago, so it probably affected me more than it otherwise would have. I watched years and years because I watched it's a sin so that's probably why I got into it and enjoyed it so much.
This is way too much brain damage...seriously
Not to be that guy but what鈥檚 the status on the shirts?
Doesn鈥檛 that make you the guy?
Been wondering if TrashFuture or WellTheresYourProblem is going to do a deep dive on the subway bridge disaster that just happened in Mexico and resulted in a mass casualty event. Fk'n bonkers tragedy that has hints of both a business and engineering disaster.
Maybe eventually, WTYP is currently working on the Tacoma Narrows bridge disaster episode for next week.
I actually really liked Years and Years. I also liked Sherlock but didn't disagree with a single criticism Hbomberguy made of it so I'm ready to hear this show slated.
