Waiting for Lordstown feat. Bryan Quinby
“We’re bringing the jobs back!” has long been the rallying cry of the right, but what kinds of businesses are actually coming back to places like Lordstown, Ohio? We are joined by Bryan Quinby (@murderxbryan) of Street Fight Radio to do a deep dive on Lordstown Motors - a “too good to be true” electric car manufacturer that has set up shop in the town of the same name. It’s all well and good when rich people take money off one another, but what about the workers who believe their lives are getting back on track?
The primary source for this episode was this report published by short seller Hindenburg Research, which also similarly exposed Nikola. https://hindenburgresearch.com/lordstown/

Love when "leftists" like Bryan just pretend like nobody outside of their major metro areas has jobs or aspirations. Oh well it was cool having TF visit a startup in my neck of the woods even if I think the guest is kinda a tool
Bad interpretation try again
You complain all your listeners are from America and yet you do an episode about Ohio, the most American state in the US. I worked at a plastics factory in rural Ohio last year though. Plenty of jobs working a potato chip factories as well though.
Years & Years was quality, and a good depiction of a 'progressive moderate' person sliding into facism and I'll die on this hill. Predictions of the future were a bit fantastical but Russell T. Davis writes fantastic characters.
I think Milo's 'blokes eating toblerone' startup guy from Cambridge is the same 'blokes eating toblerone' startup guy who was in my year at school lmao
I like to think when when two tech scammers bump into each other & fleece each other in turn, it's like the meme with the two men in long coats & hats just saying to each other "same kink?", "Same kink!" as they both pass by.
Milo's radio intro: oh hell yeah boys here we fuckin go
Ima rewrite the psa : "Hi everyone, Nate here. Just a quick heads up that if you enjoy Trashfuture, we have two new shirts [...]".
Did Milo mean potemkin villages? Battleship Potemkin: 1925 film by Eisenstein based on real mutiny in 1905 during the "rehearsal" revolution.
technical note: from electric skateboards I know the direct wheel drive is actually better. Saves energy overall, braking recharge is easy to implement (if not not systematically included), and delivers torque very quickly (quicker boost than regular electric skateboards). I know nothing about cars. The wheels do get f*cked up when you land a kickflip wrong, but thick metal rims protect the motors. Overall recommend.
The big issue with direct wheel drive in cars is that you're exposing the motors to all the jolts and bumps that would normally be smoothed out by the suspension, and the weight and speed of a car makes those impacts energetic enough that they can do real damage to a motor if it's not built to withstand them
In-wheel drives are actually used on some contemporary trolleybuses, but those are real things, not scams.
deeply troubled by the notion of a robot arm having a "make work" job
Pretty sure Raqqa was liberated by anarcha feminists a few years back, and I think the bin collection is actually pretty good since it has very democratic local administration. Great bit tho
Streefight boys? More like Streetfight Toys 😏
