The Hanseatic Art World feat. Jessica Eaton
This week, a nearly complete cast of Riley, Milo, Nate, and Alice speak with Jessica Eaton, a fine art photographer working in Montreal. Why is it that the art world is basically a billionaire tax dodge? Why do certain hedge funds seem to have so much weight in fine art purchases, even if the works are never shown? What the hell is going on? Learn more by listening to this episode.

Thanks! I got the rss into my podcatcher and, is the paid rss every episode or just the paid ones?
New subscriber here, how does one find the beginning of the biwf? Patreon only goes back to last August episodes.
Here's a link to the first one: https://www.patreon.com/posts/36844816 -- are you not able to see them even if you load the RSS feed into another app?
Maurizio Cattelan’s “Comedian,” the banana duct taped to a wall, is the perfect example of how the art market does not care if the art is criticizing it. That piece was saying “Haha, I can get these people to spend $120k on a piece of paper that says they can tape a banana to a wall,” but collectors will still buy it because it’s an asset. The guy who ate the banana sort of criticized the whole charade by saying “Look, this is still just a commodity to these people.” But it was clear that the thing that really threatened the crowd at the Art Basel Miami was writing “Epstein didn’t kill himself,” on the blank wall because the guy who did that actually got arrested.
This is excellent- the part about art only being possible as a career if you stumble into it as a side-hustle (as I did) or if you come from wealth rings so true.
hussein left out just so he wouldn’t bring up tenet when you talked about Freeports
Felt like the world's most flatbrim-cap guy when they brought those up and my reaction was, in fact, "Oh damn the things from Tenet are real?? Crazy"
Since blockchain is just a type of database, I imagine that "blockchain art" is kind of like when you zoom out on an Excel spreadsheet and use the cell highlight tool to make pixel art.
OH god, imagine the power usages, this week there were rolling power outages on the east coast of America, but look at the ASCII Mona Lisa we drew.
capitalism is when fine art and communism is when no fine art?
I've done the dialectics, that's correct.
"That's why if they did 9/11 now, it would suck" is certainly a Miloism that will stick with me
