SLAGFUTURE feat. Ben McLeay

This week's bonus features Riley, Milo, and Alice speaking with Ben McLeay (@thomas_violence) of the Boonta Vista podcast. We discuss a horrible startup called Stockwell (you'll love this one) and a Spectator article with the most profound Brexit manager-calling energy. We almost entitled this episode ACCENTFUTURE because, as you can imagine, it got weird.

Guy Verhofstadt mention! As a Belgian, I hate that prick. Started the cutting down of the welfare state and administrative state that is now creating real problems for many people. Hate this knob

Probably way to late to say this, but another way the DNA thing is a Theranos: 15 minutes is an impossibly fast time to sequence someone's DNA, because one of the main steps in sequencing DNA is growing a petri dish of bacteria that are making copies of your DNA. Currently, it can be done in around a day, possibly faster depending on how much detail you want to get.

Yeah, that Stockwell cabinet actually showed up in the lobby of my apartment building around January. Weird thing, it's a glass cabinet, unlocked, just that, literally an IKEA cabinet with an always-on webcam, and some bluetooth whatnot. And I was thinking what a fucking lazy vending machine for sheepish white people! If it had at least beer or cigarettes in it, but no obviously they can only openly show things that nobody wants to steal. Like a comb. Bottle of Vitamin water. Like a hotel fridge in large, but without the cooling part of course. Oh, and the automatic adapting to community aspect - well, there' no fucking suggestion box, so that's all bullshit, they will never carry beer, for example. In a strange way it's the perfect micro picture of... well, everything. Economy "vote with your dollar", democracy "protest if you like", but it's all really just the right to veto whatever idea has been put on the shelf already. No channel for actual constructive criticism, because honestly we don't really give a fuck.

Thank you so much, Nate. My tablet moved on to that programme about the Cameron years without me noticing after Politics Dead and so I felt like I had been watching a really terrifying horror film - hearing from you has made everything nice again. I hope you and your wife had a lovely time on your birthday. I'm actually familiar with Boonta Vista and I'll make more effort to include it in my podcast binges in future. And thank you for the link to Ben's interview. You are very kind and I hope you're having a lovely day. Love to you and everyone💜x PS I like and listen to What a Hell of a Way to Die, too.

Once I had stopped crying about Nate not being in it I settled down and began to notice that Mr Mcleay has a similarly reassuring voice and almost the same sort of laugh (as Nate). It's also very strange that whenever I've seen the Thomas Violence @ I've found myself wondering what that person's voice would be like. What a lovely show!

Hi Jane — Nate here. Thank you so much again for your kind words about the show. This recording took place at 10.30 am GMT on 28 September, and so I negotiated a pass on this one because it was my birthday and I wanted to spend some time with my wife (as opposed to the podcast, which is a different kind of spouse entirely). If you liked Ben's appearance, you might consider checking out Boonta Vista (his podcast) Also, he appeared on another Australian podcast a few years back and gave a very thoughtful interview: https://soundcloud.com/kplyley/episode-7-benjamin-mcleay-thomas-violence
