Riley's Commie Book Club - 'State of Insecurity'

It's that time again! Riley read a book, drank some wine, and is ready to talk about it to you fine people. This month, we're looking at State of Insecurity by Isabell Lorey, available now on Verso. It's all about precariousness and how neoliberalism has turned us into our own disciplinarians.

Hi, I’m from the near future, and Russia has invaded Ukraine. It would be an interesting topic to discuss how that additional physical insecurity plays in the cases such as the neoliberal Ukrainian government (especially since this threat has been going on at least since 2014, so there’s likely good data by now)

would you consider a book club ep on cruel optimism? it's a really prescient book that goes deep into the affective & lived dimensions of the current era and its various political imaginations — manic grasps towards any thing that feels like a solid footing and all that..
