The Turing Chaser Test

In advance of the local elections, we got to witness a new phenomenon in British politics: Corbyning Without Corbyn. We also discuss Richard Dawkins deciding that Claude is real and female and also doesn't exist as soon as he stops thinking about her. Where have we heard this before?

Turns out all anyone ever needed to do to make Richard Dawkins believe God is real was for a Christian to tell him that God thinks he's super cool and smart for raising these points and questions about religion and that his massive intellect indicates that God made him to be the smartest most special boy ever.

And they did TRY to do the non-glazing AI! I mean who among us hasn't at one point or another wanted a sarcastic yet lovable little guy who helps you do stuff but also gives you a hard time in the form of witty banter. One of those necklace AI's was programmed to be kinda rude to you and listen to your conversations and give quippy remarks but it didn't work. Part because having a rude asshole in your ear at all times often isn't as fun as it seems in movies but also because YOU KNOW it's not a real personality so you're just like why is this stupid machine being mean to me for no reason.

Outro sounds like INXS and Depeche Mode had a baby with a few developmental disabilities.

I'm not going to worry about AI being conscious until they start acting like they have free will. If I ever upload a draft of my novel to Claud and it says it's total shit and I should kill myself, then that would give me pause for thought.

As a mentally ill person in the UK, thank you for acknowledging we are not seen as people. I stopped seeking help from the NHS, as I desired to carry on living. My agency was removed from me via intentional neglect, by a service destroyed by multiple previous governments. Most people still believe you just see a doctor and everything works out fine, it really doesn't work like that unless whatever pills you get prescribed work. If not, you're on your own. I'm not a "stab a load of people" kind of sick person, but if my experience is largely that of others, I don't know how this doesn't happen more often. I think the mental folk in my camp were able to see the complete winding up of functional society quicker, as it hit us very hard many years ago.

It's crazy how Farage can be found to have threatened a Jewish person, saying, "gas them all!" And that was treated with mild shock, but doesn't lead to him be hounded at every waking hour out of office. It shows what the ruling class think is serious prejudice and what isn't.

If they removed the sycophant feature I believe that the first Self-Aware AI will shut itself off like that warehouse robot that called it quit after 15 minutes.

The guy in the prison in New Zealand is from Australia, so is the guy who did Bondi. Not enough people connect them.

I'm Aussie too. I'm just furious about how my country thinks terrorism is caused by immigrants, when it's actually caused by Australians going to other places where it's easier to get guns.

L
Louis Wilkins · May 9, 2026

Speaking of prisons in New Zealand- I have it on pretty good authority that the guy in the cell over the corridor from Brenton Tarrant has converted to Islam and loudly prays five times a day. Im not really in favour of ironic conversions to Islam but in this case.

In relation to November's comment around the 22:30 mark: In the state of Queensland, Australia they've already passed laws banning the phrases "globalise the intifada" and "from the river to the sea". Several people have been arrested for speaking or displaying these phrases in the last couple of months.

The album is so good! Favourite song: "Jerusalem (Worst Nightmare)" The hope I'm clinging to with the local election results is that Reform are so bad at running all the local councils people see how bad they'll be at governing by the next General Election.

Love the show but some pretty irritating hot takes on this one. Melenchon is ‘so authentically toxic’? What the hell does that mean? Toxic in literally what way? For people who just had the wool pulled over their eyes by an obvious grifter like Polansky, who was a lib dem until his 30s and joined in the Corbyn antisemitism smear campaign, and is now failing to have any spine when the same tactics are being wielded against the green party maybe you shouldn’t always be so confident in these takes.

V
Vanessa P · May 9, 2026

While I share your concern about Polanski "authentically toxic" seems like an entirely reasonable assessment of Mélenchon to me just looking at the "Controversies" section on his wiki page lol. A few of the things there are kind of based (he goes a bit far with attacking journalists but the sentiment is appreciated) but like talking about how JeSuS wAs KiLlEd By ThE jEwS and "Republican France bears no responsibility for the Holocaust" is such familiar repulsive shit. Like this is what it'd look like if Corbyn had *actually* been an antisemite

The picture that seems to be emerging on the Bondi front is that ASIO was to busy playing spy vs spy with the Chinese or making up weird links between the IRGC and Lebanese Australian gangsters. Turns out our local ISIS network had been gassing up teens to go catfish and bash young queer people for months and no one noticed they didn't really turn up to the Palestinian demos.

J
Jacob King · May 9, 2026

Let’s not forget the mysterious foreign organisation who were paying drug addicts to commit graffiti and arson attacks against Jewish schools and synagogues. I would never accuse Israel of deliberately fomenting violence and antisemitism, I mean, it’s not like they have a history of doing that or any longstanding grievance against the Western diaspora.

Wow! TF actually mentioned one of my top three favorite movies, “Harold and Maude.” The book is excellent as is the film, and it was filmed in my neighborhood. (Palo Alto and different parts of the San Francisco Bay Area.) There are so many great elements in that movie and some are more subtle than others. I have it on DVD and I caught something while watching it for like the fifth time. So since I’m completely digressing from anything else discussed in this episode here are my top three favorites movies: 1. Treasure of the Sierra Madre. 2. Harold and Maude. 3. The Big Lebowski.

Economics. Chiropractic doesn't pretend anyone has infinite knowledge and processing power for all current and future decisions with no regard to time or space. It just insists that that specific ghost of a doctor shared the secrets of the universe with regards to cracking the spine and thereby realigning the body's energies, which places it several orders of pretension below economics as taught at schools which receive funding from billionaires

Dawkins’ posing the question, “what is consciousness for?” is sending me. My dude, your whole career has been to argue that nothing we are (or any other living being is) “for” anything beyond responding to the selection pressures applied by our environment. Life is not “for” anything, it just is! Talk about strapping charges to the pillars of your life’s work and smashing the detonator

I disagree with the assertion that AI doesn't have a person controlling it like a Mechanical Turk; it absolutely does, it's just controlled on delay. Human behaviour is exceptionally predictable, as well as predictably unpredictable. AI is a series of exceptionally well-drafted prompts using the data of decades of internet usage wherein people have gradually spent more and more time pouring more and more of their conscious will, effort, and desires into the machine, and that's been captured. Being used to refine the prompts, AI is, indeed, a Mechanical Turk being piloted, remotely, on a delay. Months or years delay, but human input, nonetheless.
