The TF Extended Universe's First Album (I Think)

Nate here—I wanted to share something I've been working on for a few years now, which is... being in a band and recording an album. I wanted to announce it here because, frankly, there's zero chance I would be making music if it weren't for Trashfuture and our supporters. Our band is called Second Homes, the album is called Find a Way to Hate It, and it was produced by friend of the show (and Bottlemen alumnus) Dan Boeckner.

The record is available for preorder on Bandcamp and will release in full on 5th May. You can stream 5 of the 9 tracks for free on Bandcamp, and once it's released you can also stream it for free. If you want to purchase it, you'll get the lossless 24-bit / 48khz audio files, the liner notes, and some additional material we're currently assembling.

To emphasize how important TF has been to this process: many of you have met my bandmate Sapheen Meran, since he's helped me with live sound at TF / KJB / LLBD shows in London. What you probably don't know is that I actually met Sapheen at a TF show in early 2023, which led to us working together. We tracked some of our earliest demos at the TF studio, and if it weren't for the experience of making and producing this show (let alone having the space to experiment creatively), none of this would have been possible.

So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for being a fan of TF. If you do choose to give this a try, I really hope you enjoy it. You all are the reason I was able to make this happen. Which also by extension means that, if you absolutely despise this record, it's also your fault.

With love, and with a degree of sincerity that makes me slightly uncomfortable,

Nate + the TF cast

Just to counterbalance the last guy: I listen to a lot of jazz, hip-hop, and electronica, so I fully expected this to not be "my kind of music", and was very pleasantly surprised! :) Everything out so far sounded great, and I particularly liked the more electronic songs from 5-7. I personally found those ones a bit reminiscent of (but also unique and distinct from) some of my favorite tracks from artists like Chromatics or Broken Social Scene. Looking forward to the full release!

Not my kind of music. I feel like Boeckner might be a god-tier Eno/Diplo level producer and you boys were mighty lucky to get him.

Gave it a quick scrub listen and contains enough bleep bloops to persuade my ears to give it a proper listen later. Well done!

Purchased. 2026 me kicking himself for 2023 me not going to live shows because it’s not as though we’d end up band mates or anything

Reading the header I thought you had resurrected the Cloggheads but this is actually way better.

This is fun because I've been listening to TF for years now and I have no idea what this could possibly sound like...my only point of reference being that I was really into Wolf Parade's first two albums and saw them play in Camden back in 2008. I had recently played a support slot for a Swedish/American band called Dag För Dag, and they were opening for Wolf Parade, so they put me on the list. Great show!

I was a huge fan of Apologies when it came out, and I'd followed Dan's work because of Divine Fits and Operators. He just happened to follow me on Twitter, which led to him guesting on TF, which led to Bottlemen, and to all of this. Dan was always a huge proponent of my music and I was honestly kinda nervous about asking him if he wanted to produce the record. I also recently found out that it was because of Bottlemen that the music director for Heated Rivalry found out about Wolf Parade, so all of this is apparently one strange improbable cycle.
