I'm The Opportunist That Stepped Up
The cast reads the tea leaves of British politics as it recoils from the return of the infamous hat man himself, George Galloway. We also discuss an AI music startup and some new updates on Jan Marselek, who is living in (sort of) disguise as an orthodox priest?

Is James Blake (musician) cancelled? What happened??
what's missed in the discussion about AI music (and AI art in general) is that the people promoting it seem to think that the actual process of creating said art is something that artists want streamlined and made as fast as possible. its not! i produce music and spending time actually making it is the best part for me jfc. the tech bros are such joyless freaks cant concieve of the fact that someone might enjoy a process they view as tedious. i hate it!
A good point there, on enjoying the journey. Some YouTubers seem to convey a similar message regarding cooking or even eating. They see it as a waste of time, joyless activities. Sometimes they might be just shilling for a sponsor, selling their product. Just like AI guys might be doing.
I am once again asking for Riley to recite Dracula flow in his trump voice
The way I've been thinking about AI generated media is that there's already a role on media for what the user does, and it's not the role of a creative - it's a person commissioning a piece of media. That's all it is. Of course the thing there is that creative roles are the thing that are socially valorised and romanticised, so that's the sizzle with which these people sell the steak. And of course, there have always been patrons and commissioners who hold themselves to be creatives because of that. But a commissioner isn't an artist in the sense that the person they commission the art from is, that's why they commission the art.
I'll be impressed the day AI can hijack a bristol vinyl lathe, cut me 2007 dubstep, and mail it across the atlantic to me
dammit I wanna make pop shit for slags
Quite a serious episode, I'm rattled
pretty sure the company that runs the sleepy bear tea brand is in a cult
yup https://the-line-up.com/sleepytime-tea-cult?amp=1
did the maths on the ferrero rocher thing, ballpark 1million of them would fill most of the room im in right now, about 6.6 cubic meters, probably more cuz i assumed they were 2cm diameter perfect spheres, but i did use the average packing density of spheres which is probably the bigger source of error possible there
Well to be fair, anti-genocide protesters are opposed to at least one traditional British value.
can’t believe the closing music wasn’t an AI generated version, is it so bad that it’s not even good enough for a bit
Receiving psychic damage every time it goes uncontested that Rochdale is in Yorkshire
As someone with family who live in Rochdale I would like to thank you all for misgeographicallising it's county. Rochdale is a shithole in Lancashire, not Yorkshire.
love the rare Hussein soliloquy
The sheer amount of damage Family Guy has wrought on this podcast
Can this site make a Clogheads song?
"Nick Griffin's stew" is going to be rattling around in my brain until the DMT is released
In my opinion as long as he is talking about the middle-east George Galloway is incredibly good and based, but he is not building a genuine socialist or communist party, it is good that he gets pro-Palestinian talking points into the news cycle which isn’t nothing. Just wish it was being said by someone who had something to offer.
You're gonna start a second War of the Roses if you keep saying Rochdale is in Yorkshire
I was also thinking this, but I also once described Luton as being "way up north."
When I heard November fantasizing about learning how to fire an RPG, I almost recommended she attend a civilian-accessible demolitions class in Pennsylvania (yeah it's a thing in the USA) whenever she finally visits Justin and Liam in Philly. Unfortunately that class requires US citizenship, so condolences
Nerd time. Nove's Trek metaphor doesn't make sense. The amount of items a Replicator could produce were limited by the ship's power supply, which is limited by the amount of Dilithium crystals onboard, which stabilize the Matter/Antimatter-Reaction that the Warp Drive produces. A Replicator Ration was applied early into Voyager, since they didn't have access to Dilithium supply lines, and Neelix became the ship's cook to make up the difference. Perhaps a better metaphor would be that Wesley adopts what he thinks is a cute new pet, except it is actually a Tribble. And, since this is a tech Pod, the Tribble as also a Borg drone.
Agreed, the og the trouble with tribbles episode is more realistic: ai = tribbles, the grain is like human made art.
Wait, George Galloway is involved with the Urantia Foundation?!? https://www.inverse.com/culture/10731-cults-conspiracies-and-the-twisted-history-of-sleepytime-tea (I jest, but yeah.…)
No endorsement of Georgie Gall, but he was cooking on election night when he said, "The prime minister is a rather diminutive, diminished, and degraded politician," in an interview with an ineffectual member of the press.
Are there any groups on the British left that aren't crazy that can be pushed forward?
Lord Protector Ed Davey is a powerful thing I am choosing to lathe into existence.
33:45 you could say she went super-nova
For some who knows the etymology of a spinny-bird, it’s embarrassing that the ninth month would go by “new” for short. (I mean it is her new name, but still.)
Help me step-opportunist, I'm stuck
Where’s Dave Courtney, MP, when you need someone to help you out of a washing machine? A washing machine that, uh, fell off the back of a lorry? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (For the deep heads, this is a reference to the fact that Dave Courtney once did a porno, but even without having once done a porno he’d still probably be a better MP than George Galloway. Does George Galloway even own *any* stolen white goods?!? Stolen: the next best thing to union-made.)
