DEADLOCK Podcast #353 (Video)
"I HATE DUCKS!"
A moment in wrestling that everyone has seen, but very few understand the context, which brings us to watching this episode...where we get even less context. Of course, this episode has the infamous scene where Scott Steiner attacks...a duck!
It's WCW Thunder from September 27th, 2000, and we are in quite an "interesting" time in WCW. Vince Russo has just won the WCW World Championship, and everyone has absolutely lost their minds. Literally everyone. From the talent, to the staff, to the announce team, especially on this episode. Most of the top guys do not want to work Thunder, so they just don't! Leaving us with shows like this.
Lex Luger made his return to WCW this past Nitro, in an attempt to help Vince Russo win the World Title. He's back here on Thunder, to interrupt Jeff Jarrett, and to apologize for what he did. Jeff Jarrett isn't having any of it, until top guy General Hugh G. Rection comes out to say that he stands with Lex Luger. Team Canada's own Lance Storm attacks General Rection, which sets up our unsanctioned main event!
"Above Average" Mike Sanders is here to run the show, as Vince Russo is not here. Well, he is in this town, as he does an interview with Mike Tenay later, but he just isn't at this show, like most top guys aren't. Mike Sanders & the Natural Born Thrillers look to advance in the Hardcore Title Tournament that Mike Sanders has just set up, and if they don't, they are SOL...and you know what that means.
We also get some matches! Rey Mysterio Jr & Juventud Guerrera face off in the 2nd match of their Best of 5 Series, Team Canada's Jim Duggan & Elix Skipper get a tag team title match against Sean O'Haire & Mark Jindrak. The two Hardcore Title tournament matches we get are Johnny The Bull taking on Sergeant AWOL, and Reno taking on Crowbar!
We can't forget to mention the big talk show segment of the night, the LAVA LAMP LOUNGE hosted by Mike Awesome!
All of that, and SO much more, on this episode of the DEADLOCK Podcast.

Revisiting WCW Thunder 2000 - Scott Steiner Attacks A Duck (YouTube)

are they british?
I was really focusing on the Konnan commentary. I think the headset was a direct line to Meltzer.
Heel Jim Duggan should’ve used a 4x2
Is Ozzy British or something That line is going to live in my brain until I die what do you MEAN
Surprised you didn't comment on the VINCE RUSSO BIG SHOOTER sign outside of his office. The commentary also briefly discusses Vito and Reno's "sister" during their match - which is a deeply messed up storyline because the writers couldn't get their facts straight and it was dropped. Also appreciated how you didn't bring up Konnan dropping what was probably a slur every other sentence when talking about other performers. Good god he was bad.
James i need you to take care *coughs* of that SECOND thing & you know what that means....idk i dont watch
When I was a kid I asked my dad why Ozzy Osbourne talked like that and he told me that he did a lot of drugs and his brain is fucked up, turns out he was just British
The Braves might have beaten my Blue Jays yesterday but at least we got Deadlock, James we are gonna beat you this series I swear Vladdy Jr is COMING FOR YA!
Ozzie was an Australian wrestler (get it) from the David Flair wedding episode where Daffney said "Hey this is Ozzie" and David Flair responds with "alright" XD. He also was apparently in Sports Entertainment Xtreme
I was actually freaking out for a second because I thought this episode was the “YOU WANT LUCHA?! GO TO JAPAN!!!” Russo interview
Wasn't Ozzy just some dude that eventually shows up on tv...I think he shows up backstage on the David Flair / Stacey Keibler wedding episode.
You are correct, he was Daphne's date to the wedding had the Reno hair
I never really thought about this, but it's even more baffling that they decided to have Mike Awesome doing a 70s gimmick when they already had Disco Inferno on the same show also doing a 70s gimmick
James lookin good wit da haircut
WCW episodes are always my favorite. This Thunder episode made absolutely no fucking sense, but I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy watching it.
