DEADLOCK Podcast #347 (Video)

"GET RANDY SAVAGE OUTTA' THERE!"

One of the most insane moments to take place in pro-wrestling history not only happened on television, but it was long before the WWF had an 'attitude'!

On this episode of the DEADLOCK Podcast, we take a look back at this episode of WWF Superstars of Wrestling from November 23, 1991, where Jake "The Snake" Roberts unleashes his deadliest attack on "Macho Man" Randy Savage. With Macho Man trapped in the ropes, Jake Roberts brought a King Cobra over to him just so it could take a big bite out of Macho Man's arm! Censored on some stations, uncensored on others, this was one of the craziest things to happen on WWF TV.

We're also on the road to WWF Survivor Series 1991, which took place on the Wednesday following this episode of Superstars of Wrestling. The biggest match on the card is the "Gravest Challenge", which puts current WWF Champion Hulk Hogan against The Undertaker. We hear from both of them, especially The Undertaker, throughout the night.

Speaking of Survivor Series, you can't have a Survivor Series without the traditional Survivor Series matches! Survivor Series! We hear from various teams on this show, like the team of the Legion of Doom & Big Bossman, as well as the team of Ric Flair, The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase, The Mountie, and The Warlord!

We do get some wrestling on this show, as well! Many of the best enhancement talent in the world step up to the plate here, to take on the likes of "El Matador" Tito Santana, Skinner and Texas Tornado. Bret Hart also defends the WWF Intercontinental Championship against Big Bully Busick!

All of that, and much more, on this edition of the DEADLOCK Podcast!

The Game Gear was ahead of its time even though it needed 8 AA batteries if it was made today it would be elite

I love whenever Hogan starts talking about God/Jesus because he always makes it sound like either he's on their level (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Hulkster, dude) or that THEY straight up worship HIM.

Another great example is the promo he cut on Warrior on the Feb. 3, 1990 episode of Superstars (the one where he accuses Warrior of "drinking the sweat from the Devil's armpit).

To answer one of Jawnny's many questions, if I recall... Superstars (of Wrestling) was the syndicated 'A' show of that era, so the storylines did move a ton. Wrestling Challenge was the syndicated 'B' show, and Prime Time Wrestling ultimately was the cable filler show that changed format multiple times. The early days was Heenan and Monsoon riffing on one another in a studio while they either watched (televised!) literal house show matches or multiple recaps from the other shows. It would eventually evolve to a studio audience show where they'd do bits like Earthquake serving "Quakeburgers" after squashing Damien, etc.

I owned a Game Gear. Bitch took 8 AA batteries and lasted about 2 hours. If you didn't have the wall charger adapter you were fucked.

For more context about Jake leaving, he was promised Pat Patterson’s spot on the creative team. Then they re-signed Patterson and Jake pulled a Jeff Jarrett and held up Vince for a release from his deal before his Mania match with Taker.

That King Cobra bit both Jake and Macho on the same night, I'm surprised it lasted another 12 days. It's blood must have been 50% Coke 45% Unknown Substance by the time it went back in the bag.

It's a Rockers angle. The only thing they discussed backstage was Jerry Sags making a fart noise.

It’s funny, I just watched the Dark Side of the Ring episode about Macho and Elizabeth where they talked about how Macho forced Jake to let the snake bite him first before he did the match

J
JackRyanForPope · April 21, 2026

This is the one where Macho is visibly begging the snake to bite him so it doesn't fuck up the whole angle, right?

If I remember right, Paul Bearer is Kane's real dad, but not Taker's. There's a very not good but in kayfabe and officially released Kane novel that basically says that Bearer worked with their parents at the funeral home and was fucking on their mom behind the dad's back

Genuinely one of the sickest wrestling angles in history. And it was on the go home to a PPV where the match DIDN'T FUCKING HAPPEN
