On this month's edition of SGH, we check out the very first World War 3 PPV. All roads lead to the World War 3 match in the main event, for the currently vacant World Championship. But that's not all, as there are some grudge matches taking place on this show, including STING vs RIC FLAIR!

Went to church with a guy once who claimed to be a former WCW. Claimed he wrestled The Giant and Sting. I looked him up later. He had like 3 WCW matches one was World War 3.

Honestly the period between World War 3 and the heel turn at Bash at the Beach is one of the most fascinating times in Hogans career. Faced with the reality that his super hero shtick isn't working anymore Hogan panics and decides to triple down. You can practically see his puzzlement as the crowd boos him while he solos the Dungeon of Doom for the 5th time that month.
Hogan changing the finish of the match mid match is a top tier shithead hogan move.
Fun One Man Gang lore from this time period: Kensuke Sasaki apparently wasn't interested in losing a match to drop the US title so WCW edited a dark match between him and One Man Gang to look like One Man Gang had won, and he had a one month run with the title.

Fun fact, the third “giant” was supposed to be Loch Ness, aka British wrestler Giant Haystacks. But the guy ended up having super bad cancer and he had to retire after putting over Giant at Uncensored earlier in 1995

Mean Gene has been my favorite part of old-school SGHs. For me, it's absolutely cemented the fact he's the best backstage announcer ever and it's not even close (sorry JB).

So some behind this scene politics going on with this. That wasn't how the WW3 match was meant to end, The Giant was meant to pull Hogan out over the top rope but Hogan changed it. Mid-match. If Savage looks pissed off at the end its because he actually is. Hogan was also seriously rattled by the crowds negative response to his post match complaining. Oh and Dave Taylor legitimately knocked Hogan loopy for a few seconds with the European Uppercut. You can see him trying to clear his head afterwards. I don't think anyone had hit him that hard since Japan in the 80s!

Im happy we got the three ring show for SGH cause i wanted to see how well it could be used. And for one match, that shit was awesome between Flair and Sting. But seeing that Japan wrestling showcase, i just hope one day we get a full All Japan event for SGH
OH HELL YEAHHH The whole thing with the Taped Fist Match is that closed-fist punches were illegal in pro wrestling, so them having their hands wrapped and being allowed to swing for the fences with Big Right Hands was a novel thing. Nowadays everyone just punches each other in the face for real though so it loses its luster. That's why they invented the Taipei Deathmatch.

Still can't believe that wcw didn't fuck up the 60 person line. Everyone was in the order they announced. Also on the Joshi match All Japan women's also sent workers to the survior series that same month in which Aja Kong broke someone's nose. Then of course Madusa thrown in the trash happens. And of course Joshi promotions start running into trouble in the late 90s early 00s so like this one of the last shows before women's wrestling starts to collapse which it doesn't pull out from till the 2010s
I don't think the WWF Women's partnership had to do with AJW's decline. That was more of people splitting off, Aja Kong created ARSION, and Chigusa Nagayo created GAEA Japan. Manami Toyota was the only draw left by the time Kumiko Maekawa, Nanae Takahashi, and Kaoru Ito were there. And it was really hard for people to buy into them until much later after the company was drawing less. Gaea Japan was still rocking in the 2000s though, even when they died, and that was cause Chigusa Nagayo just didn't wanna run shows anymore.
