On this edition of SGH, we take it back to 1998 with the Survivor Series: Deadly Game! There isn't really much to do with the Survivor Series concept on this one, as more important matters are at stake; like crowning a new WWF Champion! Many men in many matches (for not much time) compete to find ourselves a new champion of the company. There is a tag match at some point, but maybe it would have been better off without it. All of that, and so much more!

Man, this show was something. Really fun to see the whole story play out. Poor Mankind at the end so confused because he's just a puppy. Austin shit canning the title had me howling. Shamrock vs Rock. All timer show.

Tracksuit Rock is coming pretty soon after this. He got breast reduction surgery and wrestled in the tracksuit to cover the scares. Also in my head Corporate Rock was a long running year long angle but it only goes from here to Mania 15. That's what four months?

The funny thing is, I think Bossman was supposed to actually be the one to hit Steve with the chair. Hahaha. Steve told a story that Bossman was supposed to hit him, but never came out because he was bullshitting and hanging out (no pun intended) with Undertaker backstage. 😂😂😂 He didn’t say which show, but I think it was this one after putting two and two together.

I don't think a PPV that was done JUST to push a single story has ever been done more successfully than this one, a true all timer event!

The Head gimmick is that lame ass gimmick a high school kid would come up with because he saw something similar in a comic. Another problem was that they introduced this character to the masses cold. They still do that shit today with indie guys. They would be better off resetting them, but then again it’s one of those mental things where once you do something , and you try to do it one more time, your heart won’t be in it again. That last bit goes with Bookers who never created the gimmick in the first place. They’ll never have the heart to actually go through it one more time. But if you truly think about it. The territories had no issue with it. Recycling videos from other territories, and slowly going through the gimmicks just to get the fans used to it. That shows the difference between a creative writing process, and a territory booker who just wants this hot act on his program.
I always figured Head WAS a concept taken from a comic, DV8, the crazy janitor Sideways Bob talks to and is in love with a mannequin head, that started not long before Al started doing this act
If I recall correctly, Mankind switched from the brown shirt to a dress shirt because Dude Love started to wear that when he went corporate. But Dude Love got fired, but Mankind… didn’t get fired? So Mankind just decided to wear that from after that. Foley lore goes crazy man

i believe for this PPV, Rumble 99, Wrestlemania XIV and a few more PPVs they're using an old VHS rip or the tagged classics version that has the middle fingers censored. In some of them it cuts out any mention to WWF as well.
Actually they're probably cleaned up versions of the WWE home video releases. Hence the censoring but no blurring. As Tagged Classics were by Silver Vision the European distributor who had the masters so they're copies didn't have the WWF logo blurred out. As when the network launched it was too much footage to go that way. The OSW lads did a good explainer on one of there New Gen reviews either Survivor Series 92 or Mania 9.
