January 1st, 1996 WWF decided to compete with the College Football Championships! It’s the first and last WWF RAW Bowl! The show is football themed with commentary making a million stupid references. The ring looks like a football field, the ref is dressed like a line judge, and a collegiate band in the crowd. The first match is a multiple man tag team match with unique rules. The winner of this will get the “Lombardi Trophy!” Also, a replay of the Arkansas Hog Pen match between Triple H and Henry O Godwin! The main event featured a very short match between Diesel and King Mabel! Plus, the show ends with the first ever “Wrestling War Room” skit poking fun at WCW, The Hukster, and the Nacho Man!

Backstory: The billionaire ted skits was crazy and funny, vince even went as far as to put an ad on the wall street journal and the NY Times about Turner's stock losing money to funnel against wwf because of the Monday Night War. Ted Turner loved it but on the other hand USA Network hated it and wanted it off the air because it crossed the line too much with ted's real life "shady tactics" in business which got vince sued in 1998. But it did get us a final match with "Huckster" vs "Nacho Man" at WM 12 pre-show complete with MST3K parody with vince and king talking silhouettes, watch that one it's funny.
Good fucking lord, Raw going up against SIX college bowl games (including the Rose Bowl AND the Orange Bowl as well), plus we're in the middle of the shitty portion of the New Generation era? Oh god almighty...

Also mentioning the curtain call before trips almost winning KOTR, was a massive butterfly effect in wrestling. Had trips not participated in it, Steve Austin would've never won it and do the Austin 3:16 promo. This just also saved wwf into '97 with that
I feel so deflated (no offense to TB12) watching 20 minutes of nothing but football references and such. So much wasted potential, but the ring looked cool with the green grass color, like an early create a ring style right there.

I asked about the Dorton Arena show because I saw my 1st wrestling show there in 2016 and my dad would go there to see NWA and WCW house shows In the 80s and 90s. The big matches for the show i went to were Rock and Roll Express vs The Barbarian and The Warlord in a Steel Cage and the main was Matt Hardy vs EC3 for the TNA and OMEGA World Championships.
