[possible] Hurricane Imelda

I can't decide. Help.

Doing a video on infrasound and finishing up the scripting and data processing after a long month. But now a new challenger appears. Do I...

I think going is not worth the risk, you are too valuable. Send someone else. We want you safe!

R
Reuben · October 7, 2025

We wanna watch you go into a hurricane. Cause we trust you can handle it.

J
Jennifer Wheeler · October 5, 2025

I'd go with you.

W
William Pollak · October 4, 2025

I trust you’ll do your due diligence and be as safe as possible, and if that due diligence brings you to “too dangerous” to go to the eye then do remote. Also wow people really want those eye readings

t
tippedandzipped? · September 30, 2025

I'm interested but also be safe m8

B
Brian Thompson · September 30, 2025

If you haven't been in the eye of a hurricane, it's an interesting experience. The serenity between both sides of the storm is surreal. There's likely another piece on disaster recovery to be done as well, if that's of interest.

C
Christian Thordin · September 28, 2025

In case you go to the hurricane, you should try to go with an experiensed stormhunter… ask dr. Timmer Reed he is a good human and you are giving science a intresting parameter…

J
JamesDBartlett3 · September 28, 2025

Only because I don't want to send you into the center of a hurricane. Safety is more important than sampling.

R
Rowan DeWitt · September 27, 2025

Either way, it would be interesting to compare the year and far infrasound measurements, since they can travel long distances so well. Could be interesting to see how much they change

J
Jay Helms · September 27, 2025

It’s gonna turn east. 🤞🏼

Dreaming in my Universe · September 27, 2025

If you think you´ll be safe, go for it, but for the love of god, don´t get the puppies in danger!

Respect, as usual, for your dedication to thorough research in your work. Going to the epicenter seems a recognition of your diligence by the majority of your followers.

G
Gabriel Pepici · September 27, 2025

Benn, bro, I voted for you to do it but please be careful, we need you! <3

M
Martin Tepper · September 27, 2025

Jeez don't put yourself in danger oO

M
Mark Karney · September 27, 2025

Visiting the epicenter of the hurricane might be interesting and yield some unique recordings. I think I would rather have you around to do more interesting stuff in the future.

S
Supersoaker · September 27, 2025

I'm interested in both. Just be careful

B
Blair Foulds · September 27, 2025

I've done quite a bit of storm-chasing in my day, so I'll ask: Do you have a plan if you make it to a strong hurricane at landfall? Do you know what you are doing? Are you gonna bring food and water for a few days and park in a parking garage to ride it out?

T
Tom Loredo · September 27, 2025

Looks like it will be a tropical storm in the Bahamas this weekend, and *may* become a hurricane afterward, but its evolution and development are highly uncertain as of now (Fri evening). From what I've read, it's not expected to be an especially strong hurricane if it does make landfall in the Carolinas early next week, so maybe it's not as dangerous as some commenters are worried about. And it's not unlikely it won't make landfall at all. I think you need to wait a day. If landfall becomes more likely but it wouldn't be too serious, that would strengthen the case for hurricane measurements. Maybe book a couple cancelable rooms in the predicted Cone Of Death 8-), and make a final decision Saturday.

Dest · September 27, 2025

Feels weird telling someone to go into a hurricane. Alas, here I am.

E
Eugene Barth · September 26, 2025

Why is the epicenter of a hurricane a place to record proper infrasonic measurements? II am excited about learning the answer!

M
Mark Matthews · September 26, 2025

Sorry - cannot recommend you go into the middle of a hurricane. That said, that is probably what I would do

N
Nick Perez · September 26, 2025

Man, I can't in good conscience vote to send you to the middle of a damn hurricane (even if it would be fuckin rad).

D
Darren Harvey · September 26, 2025

Dude. Be safe

A
Andy Mutton · September 26, 2025

You can’t outsource a decision like this. I’m sure you’ll choose whichever path is right for you.

P
Paul Holz · September 26, 2025

Be safe Ben. Really hoped the results were more in favor of the seismograph readings…

e
ecological conservation · September 26, 2025

seismograph is more telling of the flow of one of the major movements of the natural world and how it interelates with everything else here in earth. Not only that but going into a hurricane is more life threatening and infrasonic measurements are not inter related the way that seismographs are. Like infrasonic is kinda like a type of the note in the song that appears but seismographs are like the bass if this logic makes sense.

K
Kuroth · September 26, 2025

With prep and a properly researched flood-safe location (at least a few miles inland and on higher ground), it would be very very cool to get the infrasound with the right equipment directly from the source! Safety first, but cool sounds can follow closely behind! As a lifelong Floridian who has ridden out many hurricanes, I know it can be done safely with proper planning and location. The hardest part is going to be picking the exact spot the hurricane will impact with enough time left to get there and set up properly and safely. If you figure that out, a lot of meteorologists might want to pick your brain. 😉

_truck · September 26, 2025

As everyone else has said, while I voted for epicenter, please only attempt it without major risk to life, limb, or valuable gear (unless you have insurance for that sort of thing). It’s only the more badass option if you survive unscathed.

T
Tony Hoffman · September 26, 2025

Videos can wait for proper data! Also be safe!

E
Escapement Dog · September 26, 2025

Hurricanes are a dime a dozen, we only get one Benn.

n
nesiac · September 26, 2025

Safety third!

D
David Iwinski · September 26, 2025

You can convert readings anytime, correct?! (please do eventually) Into the eye, safely!

J
Joe Barth · September 26, 2025

I think you know what we all want. The thing that sounds more dangerous.

i
iktómi sakála · September 26, 2025

Like I'm used to say in my country "vite fait bien fait, ça n'existe pas". Take time to do properly. Hasty is messy. (just be safe, remember what happened to people in 1996 Twister)

M
Mattzog · September 26, 2025

B, and be moderately cavalier about your safety. Don't die unless it's worth it.

M
MrToast · September 26, 2025

just don’t die bro 🙏

C
CAT · September 26, 2025

Kind of makes me wonder how many of Bellerophon's fans thought it would be super rad for him to buzz Mount Olympus. Safely, of course. This is one reason why the world is still so full of monsters.

L
Luffy · September 26, 2025

Epicenter adventure, only if you can make it safe enough. I trust you to assess the safety threshold.

L
Lauren Bradley · September 26, 2025

B but only if it's safe!

S
Souvillaine · September 26, 2025

Just be safe please, don't risk your wellbeing for science

J
Jeremy Bramwell · September 26, 2025

stay safe, dont let the Flock thugs that i imagine are after you catch up to you while you are in an evacuation zone.

b
baseten · September 26, 2025

Do you have any friends with a hurricane hunter plane?

D
Damian Sol · September 26, 2025

The obvious choice for me is B, assuming you can do it safely.

t
t · September 26, 2025

Please stay safe but option 2 is pretty cool. Random question after watching a stream where you mentioned seismology, have you looked into using a MEMS accelerometer for infrasound recording?

S
Shay · September 26, 2025

The center of the hurricane is obviously most cool, but ONLY if you think you can be safe!

N
Nate Childers · September 26, 2025

Much as I'd love measurements from a hurricane i'd prefer you to be out of harms way.

L
L Brown · September 26, 2025

Just don't die plz.

D
Derek Koger · September 26, 2025

A differential would be interesting analysis as well (to see if there's value in going into the heart of the beast with additional hardware for infrasonic)

S
Saad Ayad · September 26, 2025

Are you able to convert the remote seismograph readings at a later time? If so, go to the hurricane now (safely) if you can!

J
Julian Delaney · September 26, 2025

I went with the safer sounding (lol) of the two options. #riskaverse4benn

L
LarryTru · September 26, 2025

I voted for remote, but if you can go to the epicenter, SAFELY, without taking significant risks.... OK. That would be very cool. 😉

M
Matt Rozema · September 26, 2025

Only go to the hurricane if it can be done safely. Easily the better option ;-)

D
David · September 26, 2025

I voted for the epicenter, but I don't want you to take any serious risks!

B
Benson Kalahar · September 26, 2025

+1

C
CAT · September 26, 2025

Don't go chasing hurricanes. The world cannot afford to lose people like you right now.

O
OverSoft · September 26, 2025

I think I speak for all Patreons when I say: take your time. Quality over quantity. But be safe please!

S
Sia · September 26, 2025

Please stay safe Benn. But the second option is super cool.

A
Andrew Smith · September 26, 2025

Which option is safer?

L
Lee Snyder · September 26, 2025

I hesitate to say "Go to the epicenter..." but you'd get the best data there!

E
Evan444 · September 26, 2025

Yes yes And Safely Data won’t matter if you get injured

A
Adam Johan Bergren · September 26, 2025

As long as you stay safe, have fun with whatever you decide!

s
stoic · September 26, 2025

Option 2 sounds awesome but be careful out there

U
Unthank · September 26, 2025

I don’t believe you need this poll, I’m pretty sure you’re going to the epicentre regardless…

C
Charles Rice · September 26, 2025

Like the chef said, safely.

L
L Francis · September 26, 2025

As long as u don't die dude

S
Sebastian Harenbrock · September 26, 2025

If you have to ask, the answer is always go to the epicentre

J
Jason Singh · September 26, 2025

The cooler option but only if it's also still safe 👍🏽

k
kseeful · September 26, 2025

epic

C
ChefDeCuisinart · September 26, 2025

Only do it if you can do it safely, obv.
