Brood XIX Field Recordings
Hay!
I took my custom wide-frequency-range mics out to the deep woods in central Georgia to record the cicada phenomenon happening there. It was SO LOUD!! My dB meter picked up a maximum volume of 98dB from these suckers!
In the link you'll find 2 MP3s and then the original 32-bit, 196kHz wav files in case you want to interpret them or slow them down. They should sound "cd quality" all the way down to 44kHz (bout' 5x slower!).
Also, note the slow pulsating in the "field" one. Wild stuff!

Thank you!
Thanks! I am waiting for the emergence of the Northern Illinois brood. I hope I have my ambisonic mic together by then.
very cool, Benn, thanks for sharing
benn i'm begging you please go to angkor wat and get us good recordings of the penderecki cicadas there
Awesome I'll check these out thanks! Also, your email just inspired me to flick through the recordings on my Olympus LS-P4 and I just spent an hour lost in a verb-hole listening to my toddler daughter talking nonsense through my Empress verb with some glitchy techno beats underneath it, seriously I'm not joking ha ha 😂🤣✌️ Cheers mate
HAL 9000: I'm afraid you've done it now Dave. That is SO extraterrestrial sounding!
